pulling out the ignition barrel
« on: 13:30, Thu 09 December 2010 »
I have a problem, I can't pull put the ignition barrel, I've unscrewed the only screw that holds it and I think that I have to pull out this flat head screw (or whatever it is) but I don't know the way to do it...any suggestions?

Been a while since I have done it but I am sure you need the key turned in the ignition to remove it.

Yes.

You need to have the key in so the metal tabs holding it on place can be pushed in.

lol, what do you think why I have to remove the barrel? I've lost my keys and don't have any spare (stupid me)

I've done the same before, my Mrs left the keys on the roof of her moms van.....i walked for miles trying to find them.

I just chewed away at the lock with a drill in the end.

precisely where did you drill?

and another question: how to remove the tank cap without keys?

I drilled straight through where you put the key. Just mashed it all up and made a right mess of it.

Petrol cap wasn't too difficult, IIRC i just forced it round until it came off.

If you can get a slide hammer , screw it in where the key goes and give it a bang , this should pull barrel out then get a screwdriver in and you'll be able to turn it to correct position to pull rest out

The outer casing can snap.  Drill out the snap bolt and loosen the 13mm holding the steering column.  Unscrew the indicator stalk and side the lot out.  Replace with an new / secondhand unit and refit.
