Bloody Hell Ash not good but you have means to do the work yourself and do a proper job of it, my front jack points are going to needed to be done very soon and I am going to have to pay someone to do them. I have done some welding before but not much and it ain't pretty

keep up the good work once done you will love the car again

ye i see what your saying but the other thing that worried me was the car losing its rigidity. plus u have a head start being a fabricator, ive only just started to teach myself how to weld to do this. my test pieces are all good, its another story doing in on the car lol. have u butt welded all the inner sills? some more pics wud be really helpfull if u have them?

Butt welded, no chance. Maybe on a work bench but on the car lying on your back it's far to easy to blow holes and end up in more of a mess. I leave an overlap, only a couple of mm. Close enough so when it welds it will melt together anyway but should you make a mistake you can hit it with the grinder and go again.

My welding isn't exactly 'pretty'. I'm in gasless mode at the moment which i generally find more messy anyway.  :(

I'm going to have to butt weld the section in the door shut so that i can grind it right back and fingers crossed you wont see where the welders been.

And some more work ahead....

Ugly compared to what can be capable on a bench. Also working outdoors in the sun will play havoc with your visor.

F**k me!

I remember that thread, i'm sure i commented asking why you didn't just get a new shell.

I consider myself rather lucky now, there must of been some hours spent cutting that one up.  :o

after reading this thread the other day I had a peek behind the slightly loose passenger side skirt to see if I had any rust like this on my 5. I discovered a nice hole in the sill by the back wheel  :(

I'll take a pic and post it up on my cars page to help share the pain  :)

My god.

This is the car that just keeps giving and giving! Now this really IS the last of it, once i've sorted this small hole out i will be sorted, hopefully for a very long time.
