ok here goes my story...

15 years ago I had a R5 GTT (faseI) from 1986, man I loved that car.  Blew the engine up on the motorway because some shop did a very poor repair on the head gasket (they hammered the piston sleeves down to straighten them out apperantly) so I had to sell the puppy, I still was a student...

In 2009 for 'nostalgic' reasons I bought a faseII 1988 red GTT that was sitting at a body shop next to my brother in law.  After passing it on regular basis I deceided it had to be mine!

I just love them in red, great color on the GTT...

The looks of it just bring back the good 'ol days when I was running my GTT versus peugeot 205 gti's and golf II 16V's... (man those were good days)

I've put on new tires and replaced a sensor, but a lot needs to be done..

Worst thing is the box that pops out of 4th gear sometimes..  :?

I want it as stock a possible on the outside (ok the exhaust can stay), to me it's a 'classic'..

To bad I hade to cancel my old licence plate that was on it.

VYV kinda means Five in dutch, so that was pretty cool to have...

We still got it on my wife's bmw 118.  :mrgreen:   So I guess I could swap it from time to time.

You definately need to get this plate back! It suits the GT turbo a lot better than a BMW.
I did not know that site r5gtturbo before today, but it seems okay. Lots of info. Not that professional, though. :wink:

ok, I got the car to Chris, who used to run an R5 groupN in Rally championship, and he installed a T25, samco hoses, Forge dv, dual cap intercooler and logically put in the cup circuit which I had not before.



Because I still need to go through technical inspection in Belgium, we kept it on low boost (1bar --> lowest with the Colin actuator), but man does she run already  :mrgreen:

The difference is amazing, the tires keep burning until you shift to 3th if you want too, love it!

After we get things registered, we'll get the groupA carb, correct jets for higer boost and we'll turn things up a bit.

From 0-60mph it's already faster than my old impreza gt turbo.

hmm little question, my 5 is a faseII, but I have manual windows and also a short radio console like a faseI, is that possible?!

The car is registered late 1987.

Welcome to the forum in response to you window question your 5 being a 1987 model I would say this is the crossover year from phase 1 to phase 2 were here in the UK we call it the phase 1.5  so renault would have used parts from phase 1 and phase 2. That is prob why you have winder windows
