R5GTT from Romania
« on: 11:18, Sun 12 March 2006 »
Hello to all of you.An old dream has come true for me.I am proud to present you my 87 Phase1 5GTT.

125000km old, ex-owner was a sailor, the car had a few problems like wheel bearings, electrical wiring, but the in last 2 weeks I managed to get rid of most of these problems. Now I am looking forward in modifying engine performance.Any advice on a larger intercooler from another car to fit on this car with little mods?I am not willing to get rid of the front bumper or something like this   .Larger jets are on their way, I understand that 0.9 boost presure goes together with 135 main jet,am I right? Does any of you know where can I buy silicone pipes for both turbo and water cooler, maybe a link or something over the net?

Here is a picture of my car, more pictures coming soon.

IC from Opel Frontera 2.1 and from Ford Sierra Cosworth fit behind standard bumper.

Try from www.bbperformancetuning.co.uk for hoses. They have full kit for fair price.

If you want boost on around 0.9 you'll need to change air corrector to 90.

P.S. Your car looks just GREAT.

thanks to all of you for your apreciation.this car is for me like a dream come true.

@jure

Do you know that you are the only one who has mentioned so far that 0.9 boost requires a 90 air corrector jet? Nobody has told me until now that this is necessary in order to keep a right air/fuel mixture at the top section of the power curve.I have a friend that runs 1.1boost and 145 main jet,but he hasn't changed the air corrector.

By having 0.9 boost and 135main jet+90 air corrector jet,how is this going to affect the turbocharger's life or the engine life? Are there any requirements in driving the car after making these mods? How much will this increase the fuel consumption?

I have two more problems that may require low costs but a lot of work...is it possible to have a leaking oil seal on the crankshaft, behind the flywheel? I am asking because the oil seems to be coming from there, between the engine and the gearbox.

Another question:how do I change the gearbox oil?I know the bolt I have to unscrew in order to empty the gearbox, but where is the refilling place? Oh,and the gear selector oil seal,in the gearbox,is it difficult to replace?...my car seems to cry a little bit...

Standard T2 can go up to the 16psi or around 0.9bar without shortening the life of the turbo itself. Regarding engine you need to change headgasket with uprated one to prevent unneccessary damage of head. Everything else can cope with that pressure. Only your boost pipes (if are very old) can crack.

Fuel consumption (if everything is well set-up) won't be increased on low revs. Maybe half a litre. But in high revs who cares :D . Joking... Around two liters.

To prevent leaking of oil best thing is to unscrew whole bottom (aroun 10 screvs and gearbox bar) and replace whole sealant. If you want to reduce your costs as much as possible do that when your going to replace your engine oil next time.

jure, you didn't understand my problem...the oil is leaking from the crankshaft oil seal, not from the oil pan...anyway,I think I have to take off the engine in order to repair this...

so,does anyone know where the filler for the gearbox is located?I know what bolt tu unscrew in order to drain the oil,but how do I fill it up?

now I got the point, after taking a look over the repair manual...it's easy...I have to take off the oil pan and replace the 2 gaskets...there is no crankshaft seal there...it's on the other side...

does anyone need a link to the service manual (french edition)?
