i went to top up my water and there was a shed load of oil in the exspansion tank but i only recently done the head gasket about 6months ago but most of that time its been sat still what else could it bee

I got the same problem atm, I think mines dwn 2 a leak between oil cooler and rad as no water in filler cap or sump

oil in the water is usually the oil cooler splitting & mixing with the water in the rad... or a cracked head....

I did have this problem a little while ago its come back.

I have a external oil cooler running so its not mixing in the rad and when i had the head skimmed before they checked it over and didnt find anythink wrong with it.

did you clean the cooling system after you changed the Head gasket?

yea i had the engine out and everythink was striped so basically it was a fresh start with all fluid how would i pinpoint a cracked head

You won't really as it will open up when warm or under pressure :(
Get another head from somewhere & hope it goes away.

Yep could well be head, i remember a few years back on my old GT i had this problem, i changed the gasket twice, also pressured the head with no joy, swaped the rad, the lot.... i then re checked the head but with alot of heat and the found the bugger... :)

i had the same problem with a cracked head but are u definetly sure its not just shit left over. wen my head cracked every part of the cooling system was filled with thick horrible gunk. i flushed it countless times, ran it thru with non bio washing poweder an still even now 6 months later i still get a slight film of oil in my expansion tank

its definatly not left over from last time as ive flushed it a number of times damm cracked head then unless the headgasket has gone again ill just buy a new head and a new gasket :(
