Hi from a Renault 8 owner
« on: 22:50, Mon 15 June 2009 »
Hi all. My name is Jamie and this is my car:

It has an 1100 giving 56bhp, but I'd like more - something around 110bhp or so.

Today a good friend gave me a GT Turbo engine. Just looking on here to check if I should be attempting to put it in the car, or chicken-out and go NA.

Great forum!

Schakal - the engine is a C-type 1100 with four-speed box.

It mounts into the car differently to a 5, so I have a B14 engine from a Volvo 340 to refit all the GTT bits to. This has the mounts in the right place.

The problem is the gearbox. They're not that great with torque, so if I do a GTT engine, I can't go tuning it!

always wanted to do similar to what you are doing on
a r12 myself .I STILL DO !!!   :P

b14 would be the 1.4 engine i take it ?? a few people i know have fitted
f type renault engines to volvo 340 and 360 series cars using volvo boxes
due to the way engine is mounted(c type renault engines will mate the same boxes ) . this could be the way to go for you .
again i have not looked well into this as yet but you might be
able to use a box from a fuego/18 turbo may be even a 21 turbo to take
the extra torque .

B14 is the 1.4 70bhp Volvo 340 engine.

The gearbox on this car forms the pivot for the swing arm rear suspension, so I'm stuck with this box, and so a C engine. I could go to something else with an adaptor plate, but don't want to create a massive mission for myself.

You can fit a B17 (1.7) engine to the 340/360 Volvos using a different bellhousing, but it won't mate to this gearbox.

Newsflash... been reliably informed that it should go straight in - no need to re-fit into the B14 engine case as they're both exactly the same. Bliss!

Anyone want a Renault / Volvo 1400 engine?!
