Old skool R5GTt owner saying hi
« on: 23:25, Wed 15 April 2009 »
Hi all
My first GT turbo was back in 94,it was a black D-reg phase-1 totally standard apart from colour coded kit, then after 2years of owning that i brought a G-reg phase-2 pearl white, lowered,OZ neptunes, engine was modded too
,stage 2 turbo technics turbo,re-jetted carb, strapped intercooler,in car adjustable boost, full devil stainles system,jr filter, spent a fortune at gt tuning (are they still around)
anyway im considering another as a toy i currently own a BMW e30 with a soon too be 3.5litre M30 engine,so the 5 i want as a toy needs to be quick

Big question:what are they like to own nowadays,ie obtaining parts and has anyone come up with a solution to the weak clutch cables (i used to keep a new one in my boot at all times lol

Anyway,Hi again!

OOps,agreed they were very expensive back then (1995ish) from what you are saying they havent changed much,i suppose back then i had more money than sense!

Clutch cables, one would last me around 3K if i was lucky,

As far as i know if you stick with a cable from Renault you should be ok.

I had a few cables from the local garage at about 10 each, lasted about 6 months! They just frayed at where they come through the floor.

They were dealer cables i was using,
this was 15 years ago though so maybe this fault has been rectified.

are many parts still available from the dealers?

welcome to the site mate,iv owned about 36 gt turbo up to now and love them(i say about 36 as i have lost count over the years)anyway im 23 and the gt turbo is the only car iv owned in my time of having a driving licence and iv never had a cable go on me out of the 20 that i had on the road.parts for them are everywhere as most people break them and scrap the shell at the first sight of rust
.most people get put off by the headgasket too but in all fairnes if the engine is tuned rite it will never fail.
i agree with dan about gttuning, verry pricey and most of the parts they sell should be on chav machines by the looks of there demo cars.
anyway welcome again and good luck with the search for you 5.

welcome mate :)

i`m a 5 newbie and nearly choked when i visited the gt tuning site (my 5 has a fair few bits from them on it) tbh, CGB and gt-turbo-spares.co.uk seem to be the future.

ive only dealt with bob at cgb as of yet with regard to parts and hes most helpful
