When the Heads off

While the heads off geting machined is there anythink else little that I can order in that can be done like gaskets, seals anything little like that ?

so it was a cracked head then?
get a head gasket set an replace everything an do the valve stem oil seals aswell but ull need a valve spring compresser tool an need to lap the valves back in.

I would leave the valve springs alone unless you know what you are doing... headgasket set, may be a good idea to change the waterpump while the head is off, the gasket comes in the h/g kit so no need to get one of those, just get the new pump..

Im Not To Sure What the Problem Is As Of Yet Im Just Going To Do The Gasket If Its Not That Atleast Its Had a New One I Dont aKnow When The Last One Was Or Even If Its Had One Changed Is The Water Pump One Of Those Things That Could Benifit From a Fresh One

Yes, it's alot easier to do with the head off as well

If you change the water pump it's worth getting new bolts to fit it and running a tap through the threads in the head.

They have a nasty habit of stripping.

I would also change the manifold gasket because it can be awkward to do with the head still fitted but thats included in the head gasket set anyway.

I'd change the the manifold one for sure mate. i just finished doing mine with it all in the car still. Its taken me about 2 weeks. Thats not even a joke. I done it in 2 hour(ish) bursts mosts days after work.

And the gasket set is cheaper than the head gasket on its own.

A 13mm ratchet spanner is your best friend for this, it will only take 1 week to do then.  :lol:

It is a bitch though, theres just that one nut thats nigh on impossible to reach without being double jointed.

ha, took me the best part of 5 days to do my manifold gasket, first major thing i attempted, was all good tho. The 1 enoying bolt, i had trouble with that even from under the car. Many grazed knuckles :wink:

I know that bolt, haha. I ended up laying accros the rocker cover with my feet on a wall with a very cramped up wrist.

And the ratchet spanner came very handy. and the Thermos mug  :wink:
But after I wrapped the exhaust manifold the head was too bulky to fit over a few of the nuts... Let down.

Whats the difference with the ph1 and 2 manifolds Steve? I did notice a perc fan sensor is on the other side of the inlett. But I haven't seen that much of a ph2 one.

There is an extra bit of metal on the ph 2 IIRC that makes it more awkward, i'm sure James worked this out when he changed his on the old engine ...
