No spark...
« on: 17:01, Wed 11 February 2009 »
As some of you know im converting my clio with a 5gtt engine.  My mate reco came round wired up the engine. For the coil ..we got a power and an earth ...power coming from the dash loom if i remember(reco will correct me lol) We have a test light so reco tested it it ..seems we have both power and an earth for the AEI unit.

One thing we arnt getting is a spark. I originally thought it was the TDC sensor. Then was told the clio ones are the same so i went to the scrappy for a clio TDC sensor. Tested it today and still no spark.

I then was told the clio coil pack will work with it. So i fitted the coil pack from my old 1.2 and still no spark.

Spoke to bob and the lads at CGB ..they were telling me to use OHM meters which i dont have  :(

So does anyone have any idea's? other than a petrol and a match

No spark usually means faulty TDC, i take it you have a GTT AEI unit ??
Check earths to engine, etc...

aye i have a gtt aei unit 209 renix one. All earths are ok. as for aei relay ..we dont have one as we are rewiring it with simple wiring. All sensors are aftermarket.

Do yous recon i should just get a new TDC sensor from CGB then?

Prob best to have to earths on the block 1 @ the front to chassis and 1 @ the rear to chassis. Can never have to many earths

Have you got the Haynes book for the R5? From what i remember theres a section in there for pin pointing problems with the AEI. It's a 'if it doesn't work try the next step.....' kind of table.

Might be of use?

Wheres 5teve L when you need him? I haven't seen any of his posts for ages!

well went and got me a multimeter today. Battery is giving 12.5 Volts and when engines cranking at coil connections its pushing 8.5 volts. With ignition turned on it says 12volts. Im new to using a multimeter lol. Foned my mate reco he told me to get a new TDC sensor anyway. So ordered one in. At the weekend i shall get a jump starter pack just to check that it aint just the battery at fault.

It was too cold to lie under the car today ...im going to add the earths 2mora to see if that helps.

Just thought id update you all on this :)
