Starter motor...

Well as you know im doing a clio gtt conversion .

We hooked up the wires and stuff ..we have noticed when cranking over ...the starter motor is bloody loud! ...i have to hold my ears!  :lol:  :lol:

Are they supposed to be loud? ..bearing in mind i have the car in my garage lol.

Shouldn't be loud matey, you got the locating dowel in the correct place?? Is it eating the flywheel?

hmm ..is there two mounting positions on the gearbox i take it?

There are 2 locations the dowel could be in every single R5 I have owned or seen as had it always in the same location.

See pic of my gearbox you can see the dowel sticking out make sure yours is in the same place

thanks for the quick reply james..i will have a look tomorrow .. i take it the dowel is the bolt type thing above the driveshaft bit.

Nah all you need to do is remove the starter and you should be able to see if the dowel is still in place or not if not there Renault still sell them.

Is the starter making a grinding noise??

aye it sounds like grinding..its really loud...i thought it was too loud if im honest. So if i fone up renault and say i need a starter dowel ..they should have them in stock?

Glad ive asked on here ...i thought the starter was on its way lol ..i was about to get a new one :lol:

If it's grinding it is eating the flywheel, prob down to the dowel.

When you take the starter of have a look at the starter and check the copper bush (See pic of a brand new R5GTT starter) is in place as these sometimes fall out and cause the same prob and that is a starter replacement this will cause the shaft in the starter to be wobbly.
