Are you getting a spark at the plugs?
Are you getting fuel all the time
Check the dizzy cap itn't corroded, check the plugs,it's prob the TDC sensor though by the sounds of it.

Now i understand!

TDC sensor or Renix unit is playing up by the sounds of it, make sure the connections are nice and tight before you right anything off.

It depends if it's Phase 1 or 2.

Phase 1 cars have it on the bulkhead right above the turbo, Phase 2 have it inside the bulkhead next to the battery, if you still have the original plastic scuttle panels you might have to pull it off to get access to it. If you follow the long HT lead it will take you straight to it.

I would try the TDC sensor first, these are more likely to fail.
