Text talk/speak & Forum Rules
« on: 22:02, Tue 04 November 2008 »
Hi everybody, i don't mean to be annoying but the txt spk is getting a bit much now, i know maybe some of you can't spell very well but i don't think the txt spk will ever help you & it has nothing to do with dislexia etc. it's pure lazyness, can we please refrain from it in future, i don't mind the odd abreviation but txt spk is a no no ok.
If you are worried download a spellchecker, we all use them now & again & the google toolbar has one on it for free :)

Cheers
Steve

I agree, i know it's supposed to make everything easier to type and read but i find it more difficult. Also it makes the site look more like one of those 'krooz' websites.

i will try.
i hav unfortunately grown up writing this way and cant change a life time habit
its not on purpose its the way i write my emails..the way i write my texts...the way i leave a note...the way i write in general.
sorry if it comes out a bit hard to be reading but as i said i will try as i kno im one of the guilty party

I am also old and don't really get some of the words/abbreviations. Some of them must take longer to actually type out than the proper word they're trying to say

One does ones best to be articulate but the finer nuances of grammar and spelling tended to fade after i left school in 1981.
However, i feel a basic grasp of communications skills and spelling should be drilled into todays yoofs so that they can become positive members of our society, and hopefully we can understand what the f**k they are talking about!

I agree with Steves sentiments.

If people want to communicate personnally  with friends and family using abbrieviated methods of the English language that is their right.

However I think that on internet forums that are used by a large number of people of different ages it is better if we use standard English. Whilst a large number of people post on this forum equally a large number of people view the posts and the use of standard English will benefit everybody.

If you were applying for a job then you would not fill in the application or write a CV in text speak.

If it is a genuine spelling mistake thats fine, I am frequently guilty of this.

i dont disagree with this topic but dont fully understand why people arent able to accept the way other people chose to type.

bad habits are bad habits
i dont agree with smoking but im sure most people before the smoking ban thought it as there right to light up werever they pleased????
