« on: 17:57, Sun 21 September 2008 »

Guessing a seals gone? any ideas? planning to buy a new one in a month or so, is it likey to hold up till then if i run her on low boost, or will it cause some serious damage? cheers
I got 5 on it..

No smoke = it will prob be fine for a while, the oil may have come from the breather if you have a standard set up going into the airfilter hose ;)

I would remove the air filter telephone hose so you can get to the turbo compressor housing and check the turbo shaft for in and out play before you waste your money on the K-Tec stuff.

If there is a lot of play in & out play that is a sign of turbo on it's way out, there is always a little up and down play.

Have you ever removed the hoses before?? If not it's prob just gathered over a peroid of time.

GTTboy can source some good turbo's alot better spec than the K-tec crap out there (Sorry who ever has got there stuff).

It's not a case of there stuff is rubbish it's a case that it's just overlay priced and you can get better else where and save yourself some 's. There advise from what i have heard has always been good especially if you speak with Dave (The Owner).

For example their uprated H/G which they sell for 60ish only costs 24 if you get if from GSF and no doubt they by it from GSF the same can be said for BBPT.

Don't forget the 'uprated' fuel pump!

I think the KTR180 is nothing more then a standard T2 with some light work carried out to it, maybe bored out housing or 360 degree thrust bearing?

Oh right so they're a middle man company who sell on other peoples mods with a large price increase.  :?

Sounds like I won't be using them then

yeah have taken the hoses off not so long before that n they had a bit of shet in em but not as bad as now. Was planning in a new turbo anyway cos it was next on the to do list. K tech quote the ktr180's got a t25compressor wheel and a modified thrust bearing. I dont no shit about turbos but wanna run a bit more boost n hate the lag on my standard t2. Jus seemed like a reasonable new one to get.

ive just had a new turbo threw GTTBoy (Steve) & it seems quite good i went for the t25 .49 60 comp wheel its abit laggy but fun wen it comes in :D & alot nicer to drive round town wer u dont need boost! If you order 1 make sure you have the screws in the bottom 2 holes wer it bolts to the manifold as mine didnt & was a pain in the arse to get home made bolts threw. NOT GTTBoy (Steves) fault he was a good help. still a good turbo tho :)

There isn't any lag really on the standard T2, it should be going full whack by 2'500-3'000RPM!
