My speedometer is not working
« on: 13:58, Fri 22 August 2008 »
My speedometer is not working. I have checked the cable, it seems to be ok and not severed. I tried to check where the cable connects into the gearbox, and it seems to be in ok, however I couldn't pull it out to see what was going on. I have changed the clocks themselves with other ones and still no joy. If anyone has had a problem like this before or no possibly how to remedy this I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks - Dean

hey dean,is your car a 5 turbo or is it a standard 5,because the turbo hasnt got a cable it has a pick up sensor on the gearbox and is fly by wire there is a connection at the passenger side above the gearbox thats were i had problems with mine,if its a standard 5 then if its not the cable i would check the speedo drive in the top of the gearbox as these can be made of plastic and can break, hope this helps :D

hi there i have had this problem on my r5, and i was told to check the connections by the gear box, but that was okay, in the end it was the connection plug, it was full of water, so i dried it out and sprayed it with wd 40, and my speedo woks fine, so its time to hook up the heads up display, try the plug and see if you get a result you never know with these cars
too fast for scoobys

mine stoped before and i couldn't find the problem for ages. i pulled apart the plug in the cable by where the airbox lived, sprayed it with electrical cleaner and its sorted now. even if it looks clean sometimes it'll need cleanng out.
