R5 Raider N.Devon
« on: 11:04, Thu 22 May 2014 »
Hi all
just joined the site
I take ownership of an 1989 R5 GT Turbo Raider
this friday,

its been a dream to buy one since my school days (im 30 now) and get my hands dirty tinkering with it
im a Mechanical Engineer by trade and have had dealings with various engine and mods in the past
previous cars were:

A string of Nova's ,SRs, and a GSi
Escort rs turbo series 2 (1.7, 250 bhp CVH engine with 12K of engine receipts/mods by the time i sold this)
Toyota Glanza V (1.3 4efte -196BHP @the wheels)
Nissan Skyline R33 GTS (2.5- 320Bhp which was usually a tad sideways)
Evo V (300bhp)
Golf GT tdi -150bhp(sensible family Car)
Golf Mk 5 GTI -200bhp (sensible family Car- daily driver )

The new R5 has some nice Ktec mods (turbo ,intercooler, Grp A carb... blah, blah,) and nice to see some cooling mods too. copper rad , fans , etc

before it arrives ive bought a separate mechanical oil pressure gauge and water temp gauge and lazer cut some alloy plate  to mount them :) , because i feel the std ones are intermittent at the moment and i like to know if any problems are occurring before they become expensive!

on that note - any idea what size thread the turbo oil feed is? does it have a restriction hole in it ? or is it better to T-off the original sensor on the block? again any idea on thread size- i think i read' on here its a '6 JIC' - M18x1.5 equivalent?

ill post some pics of it when i have removed the awful carizma body kit

does anyone have any std side skirts for sale?

hope to speak to you all soon
Pete  (Corty)   ;)
