Renault 5 GT Handbrake Cable removal
« on: 21:08, Sun 23 June 2013 »
Evening all,

Halfway through restoring a Renault 5 GT that has been standing for 8 years.  I need to remove the rear calipers from the car but can't see a way of disconnecting the handbrake cable from the caliper?

The only way I can think of is disconnecting from the leaver and taking the cable with the caliper.

Any ideas?  Or am I missing something?  Cheers Alan

you need to take the heat shield off above the exhaust and there is a splitter there where the handbrake splits in two for each side if you loosen the nut there and disconnect both sides you can then undo the cables from the rear callipers and if you want to remove them completely pull them out through the back axle

The metal crimping on the end of the cable will more then likely be stuck into the caliper. They can be a PITA to remove.

I've done mine recently, I just chose to snip them off at the calliper as I was buying new ones, I think they are around 10 each
