Pipework looks ok to me, the pipework for actuator looks ok too but not how i'd do it. This wouldn't cause lumpy idle so don't worrk too much abut that.
I'd say you need to richen the idle up if it idles ok with choke on, have you adjusted the mixture screw at all?

i had a play with the mixture screw earlyier just wont tick over properly! the revs on idle re abit erratic it does tick over tho just cant get it to idle normaly unless i have the idle quite high jiust cant figure it out. it also idles better cold which is weird and as it warms up it gets more lumpy

Witht eh carb top removed (plastic bit) and the engine running on idle can you see fuel dribbling down the venturi?

car seems to be running pretty good (apart from the lumpy idle) until today when i got home after work i could hear the car pinking...but only on tick over i took it up and down the road to see if i could hear it while on boost but there was nothing... its stinking the drive out with a nice rich fuel smell at the mo lol i ordered a ridiculous amount of silicone hose over the weekend as i intend to clean it all up and replace the old worn looking hoses. im thinking what with the bad idle, pinking, and rich smell that a vacuum hose has spit along the lines somewhere so hoping it goes when i replace it all.......but if that doesn't work what would cause the sudden pinking? the car drives spot. also i fitted a boost gauge today and the vacuum reading on idle is up and down sits around 10 - 15 and when you rev it to about 1200 it goes to 20 which i recall being normal. so does it look like all problems pointing to vacuum from aei? and last of all how do you go about getting into the aei case to change the hose......it just wouldn't open when i tryed at the weekend! lol thanks

The engine wouldn't pink on idle, it'll more then likely pnk on boost when the temos in the combustions chambers are at its highest

I still recon your lumpy idle done to vacum hosing, the AEI unit case should slide off it can be abit stiff but will come off

Sure the engine hasn't got a rattle, like timing chain on timing cover? I've never come across a car pink on idle before so thats why i say its more than likely not that unless there is someting drastically wrong
