corroded fuel pipe
« on: 10:53, Sat 31 December 2011 »
Hi Gents,

my fuel line from the pump/filter has corroded through. I have some copper pipe that is the same size (I think)

will it be suitable or will I need to get proper fuel lines?

I wouldent use any sort of metal pipe as a fuel line   !!,if i was you replace it with good quality rubber/braided fuel hose its not even expensive.

The cars rolled out the factory with metal fuel lines, they travel the complete distance along the underside of the car.

Mine corroded and leaked at where it's closest to the chassis rail, quite a weak area i suppose if you use the type of axel stands that 'cup' chassis rails as you can easily give the fuel lines a bit of a knock.

I couldn't source a used set of pipes, they all looked as bad if not worse then mine and i didn't fancy the hassle of replacing the whole section and messing about bending etc.

I just chopped the bad section off and fitted the correct type of fuel hose.

Have had a look on flea bay and there is braided fuel hose on there, however I think I would rather go to a dealer, rather than buy off the bay, after all it is transporting a volatile liquid, and get some that is manufactured to the relevant standards  :)
