How many R5's do you think there'll be in 25-30 years?
« on: 09:33, Tue 01 November 2011 »
I've noticed on Pistonheads there are only 7-8 for sale atm, it's just crazy, there was always 30+ on there a year or two ago, what's happened? I know it's a bit crazy but honestly I think the 25-30 span is how long it will be until I have my own property with a double garage lol... basically my dream!

I may treat myself to another R5 in a couple of years, but really I would love a double garage so I could actually work on the car properly. Do you think they will be extremely rare by then? I see more and more people actually restoring these now, I think the times as R5's being 'chav' motors is over tbh... the boy racers want something more 'reliable' and this is where Fiesta's/Civic's/Clio Sport's come in imo.

A few years down the line I can really see the gap getting bigger between real shit heap R5's (under 1,000) and absolutely restored minters (already going for around 6,000+) what do you think?

Its gone down on Pistonheads alot as you have to pay on there now.

I recon in 25-30yrs time there'll not be may left, i recon in about 10yrs time there may be half the number as there are now as a fair few are  getting to that stage where there either need alot of work to keep them on road or are not worth doing.

Do hope i'm wrong and most are kept on road but i fear fair few will disappear

I think the 'chav' days are already over. It seems some don't even know what an R5 is.

As said in a previous thread, some 'youf' commented on my nice XR Turbo.  :?

Yes lol I read that. It seems the chavs are starting to attack Civic Type-R's now which is a shame as they're becoming a real bargain!

The R5 imo though has definitely entered into the 'legendary' status, along with the 205 GTi etc. and I believe there will always be people passionate about them to keep them alive. What's the most modern car that will also become like this do you think? There's nothing that really shines out, I mean I guess the Clio V6, but anything since then? Stuff seems to be so generic these days, plus almost too many 'special' editions...

Yes, it seems what GTT's are left over have escaped the chavs!

I have to disagree slightly.

I think if you ask anyone about an 80's 'icon' they will automatically say 205GTI or Golf GTI, or something from the Ford camp. If i mention an R5 they might say 'oh yeah and those, didn't they always blow headgaskets'

A modern car that will get 'legendary' status later on in life....

Any fast Ford....they always do.
The hotter Fiat 500's? Quirky cars tend to have strong followers.
Can't think of much else TBH.

Unfortunately I've experienced the "ohh, yeah, that'll blow up" BS many of times.

I think the Focus RS will enter into the legendary list. It's the last Ford since the Series One RS Turbo that I would actually love to get my hands on.

I reckon it will be like most older cars, only the sports versions will remain. look at something like MK3 Escorts. You still see a few RS Turbo's knocking about, but It's been years since I saw a 1.1L

I've not seen another on the road for a long time, but i'll say this. The attention I get driving my one is amazing. People staring or pointing at it. I had a guy today follow me to Sainsburys just so he could look at the car.
