me little 5 was showing signs of head gasket failure. However when stripping her down gasket seems ok?could this have been caused by leaking liner seals?....mark

Either liner seals, cracked head or oil cooler in rad is leaking into water system.
I would say its one of the latter if your getting oil in the water.

Now that doesn't sound good at all, it may well have bee fitted poorly.
Its worth just checking everything before fitting it all back together just to make sure

I had same symtomps with a crack in the oilway in the head.
Higher pressure in expansion tank
Mayo/Icecream in the expansion tank
No mix in the rocker cover.
Gasket was intact and looked fine.
