cv joint

Hay guys, a friend has asked could i change the cv joint on his toyota starlet and of course i said yes lol. So im wondering if someone could tell me how the cv joint comes off the shaft, ive changed the inner joints before but never the outer ones (hub end)

I think it would just pull of or even a tap or two from a hammer, but im not 100% sure, so can someone help me in telling me the correct way of removing it.

dont know for sure about his particular car but many cars have a circlip to secure the cv joint onto the splined shaft, best advice is to clean away all the grease and have a good look before you start hitting it with a hammer and swearing  :wink:

Or, like the R5 it could just all be in one piece and a new driveshaft will be needed.

I did this job recently (be prepared to get sriously filthy), the Starlet CV joints might be totally different to the R5's but the 5 has a thing called a starplate and you release the arms by prising them up with a screwdriver and simply pull the stub axle off.

well i got it done, and what a pain in the arse it was 3 hours to in total   :shock:

the joint just wouldnt come off the shaft the retaining just wouldnt give way, so in the end i took the angle grinder to it  :lol:

How do you get the star clip back on? 2 out of 3 sides on before it pops off and more swearng is required!
