idle control valve

hello, i need help...

i want to know how to connect correctly the idle valve...

on this picture you can see how it's connected on my gtt




here it's shown how it's connected on a stock gtt (maybe ph1)




why it's different? what's the correct way to connect the valve? i'd also like to know if there's any difference between phase1 and 2...and if this valve is REALLY that important for the engine, cause i've seen so many gtts run without it...

and a bonus question the anti perc fan, is it also REALLY needed to be there?

Bonus question answer : The anti perc fan isnt really needed. Its also a bit of a fire hazard.

The image you linked to is a phase 1 car. I can tell due to the renix being mounted engine side and not cabin side ( behind the scuttle )

i know it's a fire hazard, but the main question is about the idle valve...anyone?

About the anti perc fan, now it's not "needed". But if u live in a warm country u will need it about summer time, i know i did this summer... It just helps cooling a bit the inlet so u can start the car without the gasoline being burnt in the inlet and never reaching the engine itself.

The 5 doesn't have an idle control valve, thats all part of the anti perc fan and has nothing to do with the idle.

so it's only a part of the fan? it is cooling something? the air into the carb?

and what's the correct way to connect it?

after todays session out on track with the perk fan kicked in...
this little soleniod thingy was open al the time needless to say it caused a big boost leak, dropped me down to 12psi on full chat and now i have a perk fan full of oil vapour  :lol:

does anyone know if the idle valve taken from a 19 16V fits good on the GTT? the bottom connections (pins)?

There is no idle valve on a 5GTT dude. Do you mean idle screw ? The small flat head one that lives at the back of the carb  ?

no, it's called idle control valve, and i haven't seen installed in any other gtt i've seen...

but mine does have it, and i've searched the net and found that it should be installed in gtt's engine...

i'm not talking about the screw...

i just need to know if the 19 16v's one fit good as a replacement (bottom pins)

If that was a idle control valve then i would expect every 5 without it to run poorly on idle but thats not case. I can't see what it would do for the idle considering its a carbs engine, not fuel injected.

everybody told me so, but my friend who's a very very good mechanic told me what it is...

i've found some days ago this thing on ebay (now it's sold) and the title was: IDLE CONTROL VALVE (my friend told me the same) and i have the possibility to put one from the R19 16v, but i don't know if the pins are the same, if it fits...

I agree it is some sort of valve to allow air to flow either into boost circuit or out of the boost circuit but i can't see why it would help with idle, i don't see it being any part of the idle circuit at all.

Its been few years since i had one in the car but just had alook round and its actually a one-way valve solenoid

Haynes say solenoid valve.

It's inbetween the boost pipe and anti-perc fan. As above, shouldn't affect idle at all. Mine hasn't had one fitted for quite some time.
