When i had my wheels balenced they stuck the weights along the rim, inside the spoke if that makes sense? The section where the tyre valve sticks out, along that flat edge.

And no, the weights don't clear the calipers.  :lol:  I would of thought they would see that coming.

yes after the weights were scraped off by the calipers this is what was done, ugly but it kinda works,


and you'll mostly see me about southend in essex

Hi Sorry to resurrect and old thread,

I am suffering with wheel wobble, typical 70+ mph wheel wobble which indicates wheels arent balanced, theres no weights on them and the tyres have been replaced recently with cheapo tyres, i have a receipt for a "remould" which slightly concerns me haha

so i went to my local tyre place to get the wheels balanced, he stuck weights on the inside which is normal procedure for alloys (as opposed to banging weights on the outside ruining the appearance) as i drove out the tyre place the calipers scrapped the weights off the inside of the wheel (doh) apparently the lack of clearance between breaks and rims wont allow sticky weights to be used, so plan B the tyre fitted tried to bang some weights on the outside the wheel,
however the standard speedline wheel have a large flat lip which meant the bang on weights also wouldn't fit, so plan C the tyre fitted stuck weights on the lip around the outside of the wheel which has improved the wobble, however it doesn't look to great,

so how have the wheels on your R5 been balanced you guys still running standard wheels

Hey guys,

The speedo in my r5gtt car only registers half the actual speed weird, i shall try all the above =]

Thats more than likely going to be bad conncetions, the resistance down the cable is too great so its reading wrong
Worth cleaning all connectors and plugs and trying it again mate

Thanks for the suggestion, thats what i thought, I had the clocks out early this morning and reseated all the connectors also the one connected to the air box in the engine bay, however the speedo does not work atall now , on a similar subject of the dash, i have no dash illumination so at night, im blind to my speed as the speedo doesnt work and i cant make an educated guess based on 5th gears and revs cause its to dark ,

The monkey that owned the car before me has made a mess of the electronics,
there is a rather dodgy alarm bypass under the dash with a pair of blue'ish wires which read 12v when i switch the lights on, also the bit of under steering colum dash trim is missing hrmms me thinks someone got abit snip happy, i hate the way you notice more and more problems with a second hand car,


any suggestions on the dash illumination? (bulbs and fuses checked check continuity between the pins on the plugs connect to and the printed circuit the bulbs connect to)

 i might have to remove the engine bay speedo cable connector and directly crimp the speedo loom together as other have done,



(more things to add to my wanted list post in the parts secion)

Hey Guys

Just picked up my First R5 Gt Turbo on a H plate
After blowing 3 grand on building a zetec turbo for my Fiesta Rs1800 and melting the edge of the pistons off on the m25 i decided it was time to buy a little nippy turbo'd car and since i have always loved the R5's (even the standard ones like the campus ergh haha) the fiesta is now back to N/A as my daily runner and the renault is now my little project,

Hope to share knowledge with you guys, come to some of your meets and RR days etc. etc.

so yeah HI!

If your in Essex you'll no doubt see me nipping round in my little Red  R5GTT
