Renault 5 GT Turbo / F7P vs F7R
« on: 09:15, Fri 29 April 2011 »
Hello all,

I am curious which engine is better for TURBO conversion, in terms of reliability and performance
F7P 1.8 16v or F7R 2.0 16v  ??

What are the main differences ?

Thanks!

could the VW box really handle all that power???

ive had two golf GTI'S and always had trouble with the box's!! and i dont have a heavy right foot either

We're talking about the O2J box off the Golf 1.8T, syncro's are abit slow but do take alot of punishment.

You could go t extent of having bigger bearings machined into the JB3 box and shot peen all the gears to make it stronger.

Thanks mate, i would take a look into it, but how hard is it to fit the VAG's engine onto F7P ???
Another question is about Valve's from williams, i have seen the valves from williams online so i can easily order them, but the question is from what material are they made ? Can the Stock williams valves stand that much power and such temps ???

Thanks!

Yeah the Williams and Megane 2.0l engine does have bigger valves so would be worth doing, if you can't find aWillains headthen maybe you could have some new Williams valves fitted to the 1.8 head.

At the power i think you'll be finding limit of the gearbox, not too sure if you wanted to mate the normal JB3 stronger or go for conversion.

I am worried that the std gearbox wont be able to handle such power, but what can be done as well known conversion ?? Is there any gearbox that can fit that engine and it is much stronger ?

Thanks!

Yeap, i am already thinking of Standalone engine Menagement, the only choice i have is VEMS, i donno if you have ever heard of that, but thats the only thing that people here know how to work with, they had few very nice results with that sort of ENGINE MENAGEMENT,
I am deffinately going for the Tubular manifold, as i think that the turbo one becomes too restrictive on higher boosts, as the EGT are getting higher.

I just wanted to know one more thing, and that is if the head of F7R 2.0 fit onto F7P 1.8 ?
as i heard that F7R has bigger valves, then it would be better for the Turbo conversion,

And i have one more quest. =  Can the standard Gearbox handle that sort of power ? 300 - 350bhp ?
OR if it cannot, what can be the sollution ?

Thanks Guys!

You can potentially get alot of power from one of these engines mate, with the right tune it'll go well

THanks mate,

Does the 350 - 400 bhp sound possible ? :)

Hi guys, i am curious how much power can be taken out of F7P 1.8 16v ? Of course, engine built with forged pistons and rods and standalone ECU etc..

I am just curious how much power people usually take out of this engine, and its potential for the 1/4 mile racing.

Thanks!

So 10 to 14psi should keep it reliable and last a fair while
 :D

15psi would be a max for me but its more to do with how the air is cooled too, make sure the intercooler is up to the job.
Make sure fueling is good for the boost too.

THank u all guys! :) My fueling is just fine, the AFR seems ok, the car pools well.. My intake temperatures are 18-24 degrees, which is quite good.

I dont really care about reliabilty i am planning a new turbo anyway.

Hi everyone, i am having a problem on idle when i try reving the car it goes lean for a sec and then it gets normal, when i am taking off, i need to rev the car more so it will get normal..

On my AFR it is 13.5 on idle, then when i rev it a bit harder, it hits 20's for a sec and then it goes normal.. Feels like it gets like an empty spot.. Donno how to explain it..

It feels like its blocked for a second... Do u know what can it be ??

Thanks!

my Jets sizes are

Main 120
1.4 2nd stage,
0.9 air corrector

I can supply turbo's mate.

What do you want form your engine mate, you after power or response?

Markey, can you supply turbos worldwide ? I am currently in Cyprus.. :)

I am looking for a turbo for 200 - 220bhp,
I am currently running:

Large FMIC
Rejjeted Carb
T2 1.3bar
Full 2.5" exhaust
fully reconditioned engine
K-tec pistons
Std Cam
Uprated Piper Valve springs

I just need a big turbo now :))))

Yes mate can send turbo's out there but obviously price is abit expensive to send overseas

Ye mate but how expencive?

How much would it cost me to get a turbo without a shipping ?
I would need a turbo that will hold lots of boost    So i can get my fiver running like a mad dog :)))

It al depends on how much this car is being offered for mate.
Although my bud got a 172 and im more than impressed with it. Think he payed nearly 3K for it though

Its my friend and he wants to sell me for 4000 euros.. Which is fair enogh, but its not like we are paying alot of insurance and that kind of stuff like in UK, so for our country its a good price...
I am just interested about 172's reliability.. :)
