test the fan work, connect the live wire to the battery if works u no it aint that
test relay by swaping with another and letting the car warm up til it is ment to kick in if not
it mite be the rad fan sensor inside the radiator.

themostat if you think is gone test by geting hold of another and seeing if it works then

i have all these items spare laying about which if u want i can send to you within next few days.

thanks mate i will bear that in mind  :)

well she is running again (at fookin last ) before you all say it

my mate seems to have found out why she over heated in the first place

he thinks the thermo stat is shot as the pipe after the housing doesn't get hot and also the fan is not kicking in when the temp gauge is showing that the engine is  up to temp

what do you all suggest i do  :?:  my ideas would be to remove the stat (i am not worried about the heater working as long as the engine temp stays down) and would it be ok to wire the fan to stay on all the time as soon as the ignition is on  :?:

think so mate    if you mean the one that is about 7- 8 inches long and about 12-13mm O/D yes

i only took the pipe off to remove the throttle cable mounting bracket which was in the way (because believe it or not the starter motor came out upwards from behind the manifold )

and when i took the pipe off it was split just by where the jubilee clip grips it to the union

Stay well clear of the Soverign re-con ones. Mine lasted about 3 or 4 weeks before it failed!!

thanks for the heads up mate  :)  there is a local place that does re-cons so will ring him monday and see what he charges ? ( mate at work reckons about 45 for exchange)

found out while getting the starter motor off while she over heated in the first place

the pipe that goes to the bottom of the carb was split (perished i guess) so must have been leaking

dont forget i am still a newbie to R5s and i am on a steep learning curve
