If yours is a standard gt turbo unit , it will . If you have a doubt , take the measure then I will check on mine .

I have this kit on my 5 too and I'm satisfied ; the way the front drive train ''works'' is really improved . If you drive fast in bends or traffic circle with the standard parts , you may have this sensation that the car is going really down ; with these parts this effect disappears .

Renault 5 GT Turbo / Re: Piper Cams / valve clearance
« on: 21:45, Wed 14 December 2011 »
Right , so I continued searching and  made a comparison between different camshafts to try to find a coherent explanation .
what I could notice is that the more the lobe is sharp ie the minimum degree/shortest time the valve is opened when it is totally opened , the fewer clearance is required . on the opposite , the fewer sharp the lobe is , the bigger clearance is required .
At the moment the car is running with the clearance Piper are recommending , and it's perfect .
What do you think ?

Renault 5 GT Turbo / Piper Cams / valve clearance
« on: 22:04, Mon 28 November 2011 »
Hi ,
I have just fitted a Piper Cams to KTR spec ( it is the modified 260°) . The engine is running fine , no problem .
Today I wanted to double check the valve clearance and realised that the valve clearance given by Piper was the following : 0.37 for the inlet and 0.42 for the exhaust . I just thought WOA that's huge . I took the ETAI document and realised the Renault one for a standard camshaft was 0.20 for the inlet and 0.25 for the exhaust .
The Piper valve clearance to respect is about twice more than the Renault one .
So my question is why ? what clearance do you have/adjust when running with this particular camshaft ?
What is the valve clearance to have when running with a Piper 270 or 285 ... is it even more than these ones ?
The first idea I had was probably to avoid a contact between the pistons and valves at high RPM since the springs to use are the standard ones .
Cheers .

Renault 5 GT Turbo / Re: changing a turbo!!!!! ?
« on: 23:30, Wed 03 August 2011 »
Hi ,
one good thing to do when you replace a turbo is to put some oil in the CHRA , the cast iron part of it where you fix the feeding pipe  , to lubricate the shaft during the time the engine oil comes to it . This prevents the turbo to turn without oil .

Took the head off this evening ( easier job than you might think if any newbies are reading this )

No signs of any mayo anywhere. Signs of possibly running a bit lean however I must stress I was running at 12psi and not 25  :D

Any one any ideas why I got ice cream in the expansion tank ?

no signs of cracking on head , no signs of HG failure.

Stick on another head and hope ?

what about a liner seal ? probably one would not be totally proof and there would be a mix between the coolant and oil . Did you notice anything between the liners ; kind of mayonnaise . No cracked liner or head gasket , was there  no pressure in the cooling system  ?

wasent the raider made in memory of some famous french rally driver that died??

Yes and no ; the raider is called ''Oreille'' in France due to the official Renault pilot Alain Oreille who drove for Renault for more than 10 years , but no he is still alive .

General Chat / Re: Thermostat

I have made a test yesterday , I took the thermostat from the local Renault dealer , written 83 ° C on it and my low temperature from K-tec . I put them in a saucepan , boil it and realised that my Renault one was opening far before the K-Tec one . Strange isn't it ?

Non Renault topics / subaru parts
« on: 11:06, Thu 22 April 2010 »
Hi guys ,
I've got a friend who's got an Impreza to take to the MOT next month and he has some  parts to replace ( brake parts especially ). So my question is do you a company/web site which sells for a FAIR price Sub parts ? the prices we found are scandalously expensive .
Thanks for your help .

Does it get faster with the engine speed or go away at a certain RPM?
Yeah bud, the noise gets faster as It revs and doesnt go away either, even when warmed up. Thanks for the input guys, i'll hopefully get it looked at proper next wk once I get some coin together, will let you know how I get on

if the noise is getting  more important when the engine is running faster , regardless of engine temperature , the problem could be linked with bearings/con rod . Is the oil pressure good ? how much do you have ?

it is a e reg r5gtt but the aei unit is on the engine side of the bulkhead ?

Yes , so if it is on the engine side of the bulkhead , over the turbo , it is a phase one or one of the very first phase 2 .
Do you have a turbo heatshield ?

« on: 16:11, Thu 11 March 2010 »
Hi ,
as mentionned you can check all the connections and the TDC sensor wire , a bad connection or some shit could have be the cause of your problem .
Now another point , is it a phase one with the AEI above the turbo or is it a phase 2 with the AEI under the windscreen ?
If it is a phase 1 and since your AEI started to work again after it had received a shock ( apart from that , just relax when you work ) , the heat produced by the turbo could have damaged it . It happened once to me .
The only way to know if that is the cause is if it will break down again in a short period . That's the bad point .
If it is a phase one and if you want to remove it from above the turbo to under the wind screen , the only specific part you need is the phase 2 wire between the AEI and the distributor cap . It takes 30 minutes to modify .
Cheers

Renault 5 GT Turbo / Re: rebuild engine
« on: 09:08, Thu 11 March 2010 »
Hi ,
the first thing you have to do is find the cause of the white stuff : damaged head gasket , broken liners ... on the condition that the white stuff is inside the engine ( on a piston , in the oil sump ...) . Then once you found , to make an engine that will last many miles , you can replace the following parts :
spark plugs , piston rings at the minimum or the pistons/liners depending on the mileages of the engine and the damages you found , all the seals , the head gasket , the timing chain / timing chain tensioner , the main shell bearings , the big end shell bearings , the thrust washers , and check or replace the oil pump .
What you will have to check also is the flateness of the cylinder head and the condition of the crankshaft .
There is a valuable rule : when you work on an engine , work in clean condition .
Good work .
Cheers
