Spotted / Was It You? / R5GTT on Top Gear 30.06.2013
« on: 15:42, Mon 01 July 2013 »
There was a tungsten gray Renault 5 GT Turbo in mint condition on last nights Top Gear episode. The premiere of season 20.

Scene was about the new hot hatch's Clio RS 200, Fiesta ST and 208 GTi. But when introducing the scene, Jeremy did it in front of three hatchbacks from the 80s.

Anyone here been the previous owner or owns it?

Renault 5 GT Turbo / Renault 5 door pins
« on: 22:30, Tue 16 April 2013 »
After a looong winter it's some renault 5 time again, and first thing I want to look at is my drivers doors which clearly needs some new door pins. BUT which type is it? I bought a repair set with torx type last year and they seem wrong I think.

This car is a january/february 1988 model and I read that the later models had torx.  :?

My car will not start at the moment.

When I turn on the ignition I'm not hearing any sound from the fuel pump. Like I used to do.
Is the pump next to the petrolfilter the one that makes the sound or the in tank fuel sender?

And I found out, I didn't have any fuel pump relay? I have an injection model so probably they are delivered without a fuel pump relay? If you look at the picture is the fuel pump relay supposed to be where I'm missing a relay?

General Chat / 5 GTT Black Gloss Exterior Trim
« on: 10:09, Tue 24 April 2012 »
I just wonder if anybody could have some photots of a 5 GTT with bumper and mirror-foot trim in black gloss?  The plastic gets pretty worn out trough the years and a popular fix is to paint the whole mirror-foot the same colour as the mirror housing. And since it's originally black matte.. I think it could look cool to paint them in a satin gloss finish.

It's a quite popular option for most BMWs. it's called hochglanz schwarz trim.

General Chat / vin decoder factory options?
« on: 23:55, Sat 14 April 2012 »

I tried to do a forum search on this subject with no success.

Has anyone visited a renault dealer and got a list with original factory options?

I work for a bmw dealer and I daily connect to the bmw asap system. a dealer portal where I in seconds get factory options by submitting the 7 last digits of the
11 vin numbers. this 7 digit system has existed since the end of the 70s I believe. IMPRESSIVE. information includes production
date, colour, interior colour, interior upholstery. type of stereo, what kind of windows, alloy wheels, etc.

I talked with a now defunct renault dealer last year but they said i.e bmw was light years ahead. and there was no information available. but I really don't believe that.

In the US there are firms that specializes in retrieving information for cash. But that is american cars such as ford, gm etc

Anyone? :)

Renault 5 GT Turbo / arch mounting. nylon threads?
« on: 21:48, Wed 11 April 2012 »
I've struggled to mount one of my rear arches properly as some bolts were missing.
I've learned that the bolts and nuts are no longer made.

I've read that nylon threads and nuts is the most popular fix. by glueing bolt on the arch. wouldn't this make it extremely fragile? as the original bolts are screwed into the arch I would suppose that the arch could fall of easily if you were to drive at a bumpy road etc.

Renault 5 GT Turbo / Renault 5 accelerator cable
« on: 10:52, Mon 09 January 2012 »
Hi Guys, I need to sort out something that has been a problem for a while.

Right after I bougth my R5 GTE it got to my knowledge that the accelerator cable was not fastened properly. It was fastened with some cable ties, the result was that when the pedal/wire was under stress it disconnected from the throttle body. It seems to me it should be fastened/locked by a c-clip or something like that. Does anyone have a picture of how the cable is attached the throttle body? I bought a repair set on ebay but it only included the cable. I do not have a GTT but a GTE but I know for a fact that they use the same accelerator cable.

Renault 5 GT Turbo / 5 GTT drive shafts, will fit a 1,7l GTE?
« on: 17:42, Thu 03 November 2011 »
Hi everyone

I just wonder if the drivetrain on a GTT will fit a GTE? GT Turbo spares told me that the 5GTT has a different transmission, driveshaft etc. than the campus. And I wonder if anyone know if it is different than the GTE? which has the same exterior/interior trim. My local deler has alot of different shafts and no experience in these cars, I will buy new from UK if the 5GTT fits.

My problem is which transmission do I have? And how can I get the answer?  :)
My engine is 1,7 fuel injected and 5 gear manual

Technical specs from local dealership for GTE-driveshaft (left side) two different types:

Will both fit maybe?
transmission type JB0/1/3, manual transmission;
left front end , splints wheelside 21, Length 598 mm

transmission type JB4/5,
manual transmission;
left front end , splints wheelside 21, Length 611 mm

Renault 5 GT Turbo / How to remove sideskirts
« on: 20:52, Sat 22 October 2011 »
I Wonder how to remove the sideskirts and front/rear arches. I've successfully removed both bumpers without problems. The sideskirts looks like they've been bolted on without making it possible to remove without breaking then bolts
and clips.

Help :)

General Chat / Which colour for my calipers?
« on: 00:44, Tue 11 October 2011 »
I have a white R5, and I'm tempted to paint my calipers red.
I wonder what you guys have done?

My local store has silver, blue, red, yellow, black caliper paint.

On my BMW I've painted them silver. Silver or black is the only proper thing for that kind of car.

But the R5 is an old sportscar and since it has red carpet and red stiching in the seats red calipers could be cool IMO  :D

General Chat / Post pics of BBS RS/RM on R5 GTT
« on: 03:20, Mon 10 October 2011 »
Hi everyone

I'm looking for some BBS RS replicas for my R5 GTE, I will probably go for silver, but gold is tempting too. Im wondering if 15" is the best size. What do others think? I actually sell 17" for bmw e30 at my work, but they will be too big and the offset is 27 and I've heard that 35 is maximum.

some pictures that I found.. looks stunning in my opinion. gives it that 80s charm  :D

BBS RM, 15"s?

BBS RS - is this 15 or 16" what do you think?

Your cars / My white '88 GTE (1,7 l)
« on: 06:27, Sun 09 October 2011 »
Hi fellow R5 enthusiasts!  :D

Picked up my new number two car this week :) will work on it trough the winter. It's the first R5 with GTT/GTE styling that I've ever had actually, even though I been looking for one of these since i was 14 (now 23) There are probably only 2 or 3 GTT's in my country. But probably 10-15 GTE's. I got it for a bargain :D

Renault 5 GTE KAT (C409)
Engine code F3N - 1721cc
94 hp

GTE was the most popular 5 in scandinavia and germany due to emission taxes.
