Hi guys just wondering, ive seen a few people running there carbs without the choke flap. Can anyone tell me the benefits of this? Obviously i know that without one it will be a pig when

hi people. Did a full rebuild of my engine over easter, the car seems good. Rejetted the carb too and it's great on full boost and on he motorway, no pesky leaning off, but around town or if i'm just driving slowly it's just over fueling going to 9.3 on the afr at times. ive still only got the standard main jet in it. also noticed a couple of times that when its hot (fan cutting in) and i'm sat in traffic i get plumes of smoke coming from the exhaust it doesnt seem to be blowing oil through. could this just be un burnt fuel? it doesn't smoke at any other time and if i putg my hand over the exhaust i don't get any oily residue at all. any ideas?

Been out in my Renault tonight and the afr was up and down like a yoyo. Sprayed some carb cleaner around the car and the engine noise changed pitch so I have leaks on it. Do I need to use a rebuild kit or can I use gasket sealant?

Having a problem with my mixture. It seems quite nice at about 30mph showing 12.8-13.4 on my afr but if I ease off the accellorater or press it gently or turn a corner it then suddenly goes extremely lean also when it's hot at idle sometimes it goes really riches low as 9. I've checked the carb for any leaks and can't find any. Does anyone have any ideas? Daren't bloody go anywhere in it.

Can anyone tell me if the 5's have a relay for the heater fan? Checked the fan itself the switch and the wiring and it still doesn't work. I nearly got hypothermia this morning in it.

Just a quick one. I fitted a dumpvalve the other day and tomorrow I'm going to fit my boost controller should i have the pipe for this closer to the the carb base or the pipe for the dumpvalve closer to the carb base or will it not matter which is first on the double T-piece?

My dads 5 turbo broke down on saturday, he fitted his afr kit changed his fueling on his carb and and set his choke up and also cleaned his dizzy. the car was running great and then died on him at a set of traffic lights (about 4 miles later) wouldn't fire up took the fuel pipe off whilst he was waiting for me to tow him back and no fuel came through. tried the relay off mine on it still no good. last night we checked his sparks and wasnt getting anything and had a volt meter across the fuel pump and got no reading from that either, checked the fueses they seem fine. does it sound like a short in ther wiring from the ignition? the engine turns over fine though. aany help would be greatly appreciated.

Fitted my gauge kit and been out in the car but I'm not sure what the readings should be as it's up and down like a yoyo. At idle it's between 11.9-12.3, when I'm accelerating slowly up to about 30 it goes to about 13-16 when it's at a constant 30 in 5th it drops down to about 10.4-11.6 on full boost(0.8 bar) it's 14.4 haven't been faster than 30mph as I'm scared to break the car.  Should the figures be so random? And any ideas on what they should be roughly? It's running on this engine a standard solex carb, turbo technics t25 hybrid and the cup mod which is about it. Any help greatly appreciated.  :?

just been to the shops in my renault and just as i pulled up on the driveway it started tapping and there was a slight dinking noise every now and again and it sounded like it was only running on 3 cylinders and plumes of white smoke coming from the exhaust. anyone have anyideas on what ive broken?  :(

With the advice of quite a few people on here and an unbelievable amount of help from Deangt5 the raider is running lovely and hopefully tomorrow will have it's 12 months ticket. Just wanted to say thank you :D  :D  :D

had an idea, i've got a completly knackered t2 if i used that without the the shaft fins or bearings i could block the oil feed off. still have the water pipes connected and the exhaust have the wastegate open woould it damage the engine? just for the mot? stupid or plausable?
