Renault 5 GT Turbo / That Stupid Swirl / degassing pot
« on: 20:17, Sun 18 December 2011 »
Soooo, the stupid swirl pot on my 5 popped in half some time ago, it was a nice clean break, so i bought some super mega ultra tough glue and sealed it back together this stuff was strong, i put all my strength into trying to pull the swirl pot apart before confirming it was probably stronger than original, fitted it to the car and totally forgot about it, car was running fine for months the other night then whilst driving back home from london after picking up a turbo for the fiesta i noticed a mild lack of power, i assumed it was because i was running on the reserve tank and the secondary pump cant really hand the fuel requirements on boost, so i laid off the boost and casually cruised down the a13, then just out the corner of my eye i catch a little red blink (maybe half a second), being an old car and a little damp on the road i assumed this little blink was merely a little electrical glitch, the temperature gauge looks fine the heaters are working nicely no obvious issues, i arrive at a small traffic jam a mile down the road to find steam pouring out the engine bay, and i watch the temperature needle quickly rocket to hot, and the overheat light switch on the dash so i quickly move the car over into a layby switch the engine whipped open the bonnet to find the little bloody swirl pot and popped clean in half and the engine completely drained of coolant, i'm 20 miles from home, all i've got on me is an old trainer with a shoe lace and an empty water bottle, sooo, i use the shoe lace to tie the swirl pot back together and found a nice clean puddle to fill the water bottle up to re fill the engine with some form of water, i got home after stopping at every water point on the way, topping up and rebleading the cooling system, the next day i glue the swirl pot back together, (have ordered a replacement plastic one until i ca find a cheap alloy one) switched the car on and found dun dun daaah headgasket cream on the filler cap (just a little hint of it), so it looks like i've gotta do the bloody headgasket,  just before i jump right in, does anyone else find a little emulsion cream during warming up on a very cold morning, or do you reckon its deffo headgasket,

your thoughts please

Site/Forum/Computers / Typos on the sites content
« on: 20:59, Fri 29 July 2011 »
Hi Web Admins

I had a look to see if this topic already existed but alas i couldn't find it,
I am by no means a grammar or spelling freak but i thought it might be a good idea to have a topic where people can point out typos and other oddities on the site (which is good and informative i might add) or reword sections to improve the site further,

anywho there is a couple of area's on the maintenance page which could do with a spruce,

capital B on boost on line

"two reasons either the Boost has been"

some instances of the word turbo start with a capital T and some lower case?

no content for

>>> How to fit a Dump Valve
also its a dead link,

some funky wording at the bottom on the clutch topic

"wear your clutch cable of wear your clutch."

i was thinking something like

"Try not to rest your foot on the clutch pedal as this could stretch the clutch cable or wear the thrust bearing"

these are just my suggestions other people may have a better suggestion or this topic may be closed and deleted for ever ;)

please don't think oh hes just being picky and has nothing better to do,
this is the site/forum improvement section

i like the site and its always my first stop for R5 turbo info

(typos in the forum don't count i make loads of these and there is probably a few in my text above :P )

Renault 5 GT Turbo / Rear Wiper Blanking plug??
« on: 22:06, Mon 25 July 2011 »
Hi Guys and gals

So i want to remove the rear wiper and blank it off,

i dont use it, the arm is going rusty and its a tiny bit of unnecessary weight,
i removed the wiper on my rs1800 fez and popped down the breakers yard to grabbed a steel blanking plug from a low spec fez job done, did any of the low spec R5's come without a rear wiper or does anyone know of another renault which came without rear wiper but a blanking plug in place which would fit the R5, i could get a plate welded in he boot filled and resprayed but i might want to put the motor back on if i sell sell sell

anyone here done this?
how did you go about it

Newbies / Hi Guys!
« on: 04:26, Wed 04 May 2011 »
Hey Guys

Just picked up my First R5 Gt Turbo on a H plate
After blowing 3 grand on building a zetec turbo for my Fiesta Rs1800 and melting the edge of the pistons off on the m25 i decided it was time to buy a little nippy turbo'd car and since i have always loved the R5's (even the standard ones like the campus ergh haha) the fiesta is now back to N/A as my daily runner and the renault is now my little project,

Hope to share knowledge with you guys, come to some of your meets and RR days etc. etc.

so yeah HI!

If your in Essex you'll no doubt see me nipping round in my little Red  R5GTT
