Renault 5 GT Turbo / strange cutting out.

hi guys im totally baffled with my car now. it seems to idle ok but when i rev it it wants to cut out and when i try to drive it its really lumpy. the car has been sat in my barn over the last few years and i have given it a full engine rebuild and replaced most things. the carb has had a full refurb kit on it. i have replaced all vacuum and fuel pipes. I have checked for any air leaks i can and all seems good. i have cleaned the idle jet out numerous times and drained the carb bowl. i have also checked the mixture screw is set right and the end still in place. i have noticed when the car is idling the dump valve diaphragm opens and closes is this normal? also when its idling with the carb top off the carb seems to have a  crackling noise. is this normal? the pump jet seems to be squirting fuel down the venturi well through the brass nozzel. anyone got any ideas as its totally baffling me. i have just put 20 pounds worth of fuel in it from asda could this be the problem? as a few people have told me asda fuel is rubbish. appreciate any help thanks

hi guys could anyone tell me what type of relay the central locking relay is on the gt turbo? and also where would the best place be to get one? dont know what to ask for at local motor factors when i go and not clued up on electrics. ive got an intermittent fault with my central locking sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. with both the alarm fob and also the  interior central locking switch?? i have tried a new central locking switch and the fault still occurs. so eliminating the relay and then if its not that has to be a wiring fault. appreciate any help thanks

Hi does anyone know of anyone or any company in the northwest or as near as possible that i could pay to set my car up? i have a wideband fitted to the downpipe so i have set it up best i can but i want it perfect, im running a fairly high spec t25(bushy spec) hybrid piper cam ported head, large downpipe,magnex exhaust system and want to run about 20 psi so really want it set up properly! appreciate any help thanks

Renault 5 GT Turbo / meta m96 alarm

Hi ive finally got round to spending some time on my 5 after it being stood in my garage for the past year.  I have a problem with my alarm and central locking. The key fob wont lock or unlock the car.The door lock switch in the car still works. I have changed the batteries in the fob but still nothing happens .I have found the control box for the alarm which shows its a meta m96 system which i was told is the original alarm system for the car from factory. Im not sure if the fob is at fault or the control unit as i have found that mice have been nesting in my heaters in the car and maybe they could have chewed a wire or im scratching my head at what it could be. i have searched on the internet about meta alarms and found that my alarm with the round key fob could be coded with an 8 or 16 digit code but i dont have a code so stuck there. does anyone know if anyone can supply a replacement control unit and matching fob ? or if the control unit is unplugged does it all need coding again? also does anyone have a wiring diagram for the meta m96 e alarm? appreciate any help thanks

hi my friends renault 5 gt started playing up the other day. he took it on the backroads and when boosting hard the car cut out. now the car idles irratically sounding like its not getting enough fuel and struggling. the car wont idle untill very warm and then when you blip the throttle it just cuts out but will then start again straight after and idle. we have tried everything we can think off and now absolutely baffled! we have cleaned alll carb out done new fuel filter, cleaned all jets, rebuilt carb with carb kit,set new  mixture screw, new plugs, checked for air leaks everywhere, all new vaccum pipes and nothing makes any difference! we fitted a different (secondhand) turbo which had no play the other week after his was knackerd and changed oil and filter. the car ran perfect for a week and then all of a sudden its playing up. anyone got any ideas what this can be? we compression test it and one cylinder was about a bar less than the others could it be head gasket or piston ring failure? causing it to run like this?it deffinately sounds like its fuel and not ignition appreciate any help thanks

Hi been messing with my mates car today got it running right for him, but he mentioned it was loosing water when he came. we have looked for leaks but no sign. he drove 40 minutes on the motorway to my house and it lost about half of the water in the header tank. There was no real signs of headgasket gone, he has fit a new alloy radiator because thought it was the old radiator leaking but no today he wanted the cup breather mod doing on his car to see if it helped the running of it. we blanked of the one way valve in manifold and did away with the breather hoses to the telephone hose and fit in an oil catch tank and oil breather filter. started the car and it puffed out white smoke, so we reverted back to the original setup and one way valve and theres no white smoke! we thought it might have been because one way valve removed it would just be pumping out all the crap in the system. any ideas? could the cup breather mod be showing better signs of the head gasket going than the original breather setup would? the car doesnt over heat, fan kicks in when it should! theres no oil in the water and no bubbling in the header tank.and the heaters get hot. so no real signs of the headgasket going other than the white smoke when the cup breather mod is in place! totally baffled! appreciate any help thanks

hi havnt been on here for a while, my friend has just bought a gt turbo and asked me to help him sort it out and tidy it up. my car is nearly ready for the road after a long 2 year restoration and over 6k spent. could anyone tell me or post me in the right direction for any thread on tuning the gt turbo upto 15 psi on standard turbo. i have already told my friend what to buy to get it set up, all the basics, low temp fan switch new dizzy , dizzy rotor arm and leads ,full service kit, carb overhaul kit, green seals, new king lead,new mixture screw, double alloy intercooler, boost,oil pressure and rev guage, oil cooler.all the things needed to keeps things in check! my car is running 200 hp and i have a wideband set up. but because i havnt touched my car for over a year im a little rusty on jet sizes for tuning. could anyone tell me what jet sizes are needed to wind standard turbo upto 15 psi? the car is going to be put straight on the rolling road to check afrs after ive done it but just need to make sure i have correct jet sizes in the carb! appreciate any help thanks

hi guys whats the best engine oil to use in the c1j engine. my engine is heavily modified so want good oil to put in it now its been run in. also is there a good oil filter to use? car is going to be used for odd track days and just weekend driving. thanks

hi guys, finally getting my car ready for the road after being stood in my barn for 2 years! cant wait spent thousands on it! i have t25/t28 turbo hybrid bushy spec. piper 270 cam all forged internals double intercooler ported head etc loads to list. got a wideband fitted off scoff and got the carb as near as i can on the afr's but want to make sure its perfect to avoid melting pistons etc. the problem is the old guy rob at minisport i normally use has given up with tuning so im stuck for someone to tune the car. its getting mot'd in a week or so but as soon as motd want to take it to someone who can tune it for me!and want someone who will know what there doing as theres too many guessers out there! any advice or recommendations apreciated thanks

hi guys not been on here in a while but just getting my car finished for the summer. had the car running yesterday perfect and blead the water as fan wasnt kicking in.the car was low on fuel though yesterday light was on.came back to it today and wouldnt start kept firing but wouldnt start .so took carb lobster off and sprayed in some carb cleaner and easy start and got it running. but was very lumpy and kept popping spluttering and backfiring, then would cut out. sounds like running on 3 cylinders. so i out 10 litres of fuel in emptied carb bowl took idle jet and main jet out and re started but still the same. thought some crap might have been sucked in as low on fuel. then i realised under the bleed nipple the dizzy(which is brandnew) had got wet. so cleaned out all the contacts and sprayed wd40 on. took dizzy cap off and noticed all the contacts inside had gone black possibly burnt from water arcing across?so i cleaned allthe contacts inside and started it up again, it now starts better but still sounds as running on 3 cylinders and im out of ideas?? any advice would be great!thanks

hi guys im just putting my car back together after having sills done and the sills are coated in the black primer they come in what would the best underseal be to use to put over the sills before i put the skirts back on. im also going to do behind the wings. i have a full tin of tetrosol will this do or would shultz be better. ideally something i can apply with a brush would be easier so theres no over spray on the new paint work. appreciate any help thanks

hi could anyone tell me if the phase 2 gt turbo has a starter relay or not? i have heard they do and also heard they dont, im getting the click click click, ive tried wiring direct from battery to starter wire and still get the click click but will then start on occasions. i think the starter cold be knackerd due to heat from downpipe but want to eliminate any relays. thanks

hi its my bday tomoz and im going to treat myself to a wideband set up, which is the best value for money. i have done a bit of research and this it narrows down to the innovate lm-1 , or the lm-2 or the aem uego, you c an pick them up for around 200 also cgb does a set which is 150 but dnt know if they will be accurate. can any of these i have mentioned be used with an exhaust clip? to check other cars. i am going to use the car for track days the odd drag and fast road at weekends  :D  appreciate any help thanks

hi does anyone know what fuel pump this is?? is it uprated or standard?i took it off my car, its biggerr than my new r11 uprated pump to 200 bhp,because its bigger does it mean it will be uprated and flow more fuel or does the size not mean anything??

the numbers and letters on it are

which is the better pump for 200 bhp??
