Renault 5 GT Turbo / B18FT fuel pump
« on: 23:44, Wed 01 May 2013 »
Does anyone know if the fuel pump on the b18ft has the same sandwich plate as on the F2N? This plate seems to just be there as a spacer and was the source of my oil leak which I have now sorted where I managed to fit the gasket on the wrong side of the plate.
It looked like it needed 2 gaskets - one either side of the sandwich plate to make a proper seal between the pump and the head and now as a result the plunger is fractionally further from the cam lobe it operates on. My question is what would happen if that spacer was removed altogether? Why is it there at all? There would be more travel on the plunger but what would happen? I'm not planning on doing this before anyone asks, just wondered after looking at it the other day.

Renault 5 GT Turbo / GT Turbo brake fluid capacity
« on: 20:41, Tue 30 April 2013 »
Just wondered if anyone know how much brake fluid the GT turbo system holds in total from empty. I don't wanna buy a full 5 litres if I don't have to. I've got girling calipers the same as standard turbo ones.

General Chat / Anyone tried fitting universal stretch CV gaitors?
« on: 01:26, Sat 13 August 2011 »
I had a go earlier.. followed the instructions to the letter, I think you'd need to be a world class body builder to pull the small end of the gaitor over the cone!! I also made the mistake of adding the supplied topup grease before fitting the gaitor and ended up with it caked everywhere! In the video on he just well.. slides the boot on instantly! it's much harder in practice trust me!
You have to pull so hard the gaitor ends up wedged on the cv and takes similar force just to pull back off, I did get the thing on in the end albeit with loads of mess   :?
another 2 to fit tomorrow - can't wait!

Renault 5 GT Turbo / Coilover Assembly question..
« on: 21:16, Tue 15 February 2011 »
I've got a set of 2.25" AVO coilovers bought secondhand. They came with the coilover bodies, springs, bottom adjustor and top spring seat/bearing.
My question is what parts from my old gas adjustable setup do I need to use the coilovers on my car? Obviously I won't need the top spring seat, but I will need the top mount, rubber and bearing which would be useful for steering the car!

I can't see how to attach the topmount and the rest to the supplied top spring seat? Can't remember me photobucket password to upload any pics and not received the reset password email they reckon they sent me?!

Renault 5 GT Turbo / Gaskets
« on: 21:01, Fri 07 January 2011 »
In my head gasket set there's 2 separate manifold and water pump gaskets, a black one and a thinner light brown one of each. Are these both supposed to be used?
There were only one of each of the old gaskets fitted that I took off. If they both have to be used does it matter which way round I fit them ie black gasket on the head 1st followed by the other? I wouldn't have thought it'd make any difference but thought I'd better ask.. :!:

Renault 5 GT Turbo / Annoying caliper fitting dilemma
« on: 20:37, Tue 23 November 2010 »
Hi all, I can't fit my rear calipers to my GTT rear axle as the thread in the holes is different to the bolts. The bolts are from the rear calipers of a ph2 GTT and the axle (apparently) is from a 1990 Raider. It didn't come with anything on it at all, no brakelines, hoses, calipers, discs or anything and I never thought of asking the bloke for the bolts when I picked it up.
I think the ones I've got are M10 - possibly 1.25 pitch and they're the same as the bolts that mount the bottom of the rear shocks to the axle but the holes for the calipers are different. :?
The bolts do go in but get extremely tight very quickly and then upon winding them back out the crest of the threads are rounded off. Don't know if anyone can shed any light on it or has some spare caliper bolts knocking about which might fit. If not I'll have a root round a breakers yard, there's always millions of bolts lying everywhere.

Site/Forum/Computers / getting kicked off all the time!!!

Firstly, sorry to post up in here again but tonight, every time I go on a different page or click anything, I'm not signed in anymore!
I must've signed in 50 times in the last 10 minutes.. I'm amazed I've stayed on long enough to even be able to post this. Don't know if it's just my computer or if anyone else has experienced it? It's probably not even worth mentioning as it probably won't do it tomorrow.

Renault 5 GT Turbo / Couple of brake questions..
« on: 21:57, Sat 14 August 2010 »
I took my front calipers apart a while back and putting them back together recently I'm not 100% sure I've fitted the new GTT pads properly..
I'm sure the front calipers are the same as GTT calipers on my car - can anyone comfirm. I think they're girling calipers as well..

front caliper with new pads in.

carrier removed from caliper

The pads don't locate on the carrier at all like on the the rears, if they did I'm pretty sure it'd knacker the locating clips but something about this pic doesn't look right, I can't remember how I took them apart if I'm honest - can't be that hard can they surely?! :?

The old pads have slits in them as well where the new ones are solid. Also the old ones have a wear indicator cable but the new ones don't but I'm not that that bothered about not having them, nothing a visual inspection now and again won't cure

Renault 5 GT Turbo / Quick axle question..
« on: 09:59, Fri 09 July 2010 »
I know this has probably been covered before but does anyone know if you definitely need a rear brake compensator if fitting a gt turbo axle to a non-turbo?
I picked an axle up ages ago and still have'nt used it. Didn't come with a compensator or any brakes for that matter. I need to get everything and get it together and fitted as this has been dragging on way to long now

..and only one engine, it's Scoff's.  No wonder he's eating up the quarter in just over 11 seconds. He's got a hybrid of F7P and F7R engines. Anyone know what his 0-60 time is?

Anyone watch tonight's Top Gear? Clarkson wrecked a perfectly good Twingo Sport this week. The man is a dick!  He had Ross Kemp in the boot and anything saying he was gonna hurt him when he got out, he never did though :|

Other Renaults / Sh!t head?
« on: 17:08, Mon 30 November 2009 »
Was thinking of stipping my old F2N head today, got in on the bench and turned the cam pulley and all this rusty crud fell out of no 1 and 4  inlet valve bores

Does this mean the head's fooked. The gasket went on it once before but an engineer said it hadn't warped? Is it worth stripping anything off as spares, cam valves etc..?
