run the old starter to a battery and see how quiickly it turns over. If it does then it was never a starter motor problem to begin with. If it doesn't, then do the same with the new one just to make sure that one isnt a dud too. Failing that it could be as said before by another poster, a bad earth. Or may not be engaging with the teeth on the flywheel properly (either out of place, worn teeth or gunked up)

Hence why i cant find the plug as i dont have a knock sensor, thanks....that clears that up.

Now just to find out why the bugger aint running properly.

I hope i havent mullered it, i drove the car 10 miles at 30mph with turbo knackered to get me home. Could this have done any damage?

Thanks for the reply. Im talking about the black circular plus, which has the 3 holes in a triangle shape. The TDC i think is white on my car and sits just below this.

I will search this site and try find a pic of what i mean.

It is possible i didnt disconnect this though and that it never had anything connected to it. It is just strange because i cant see why it will run like it does then die and the rear of car (i imagine fuel pump) and the carb make a sqealing and buzz noise. It has fuel in car too.

Whilst changing a turbo what else could i have disturbed?

Renault 5 GT Turbo / Please help
« on: 22:17, Mon 13 April 2009 »

I have just changed my turbo after knackering it this weekend. I had trouble getting one of the nuts off, so i disconnected all hoses and sensors in my way to get my spanners in there with good amount of room.

Right, i disconnected a circular black plug, and i cant find it now. where does it come from when it connects to the bulkhead? It has probably dropped down somewhere, but i don't know where it goes or what it does in order to trace it back.

The car will run without it, but only at about 200 revs on full throttle, then it cuts out and i get a squealing from rear of the car.

If anyone can help, id appreciate it greatly!

agreed. I had one at 223bhp and it spent more time off the road than on it. Mine now is a healthy 155bhp and it drives without fault day in day out, i can whack the boost up now and then, its just as i want it.
