Title: My R5 GTT
Post by: dj_craig_ on 16:20, Sun 25 July 2010
Here are a a few pics ov my 5.
I got it in november last year from a member on hear called BriC. I havent done much to it since i got it as everything as been fine apart from it running a little rich wich i got sorted. I have fitted a baily DV and just orded some morette headlights wich i think will finish it off nicely.

Right, time for a question wich may sound stupid but how can i tell how much boost my 5 is producing or if it has been changed before i got it ?
also does the turbo look a standard unit ? i have been told its bigger than normal  :D
thanks for any help or info.
@andybond, let me no next time they is a meet and al try and make it :)

Thanks Ruske but i find it hard to keep my eye on the gauge whilst its torque steering all over the road lol, i have a seperate boost gauge wich i am going to get the missus to look at. Thanks again for the pic. :D

i think additional gauges are too much, we have all the stock gauge, that looks cool and i like it, i've got used to it and like to watch it going up till the red zone

Wheeey, good to see you're on here  :D

Served me well that car did... one of the best 5's I had!

It was running even richer, but I got the carb messed with a bit, but we didn't manage to get it perfect!

Will be interesting to see this car as you do more to it. Looking good with Morettes too :)

PS - the guy I bought it off, who fitted the turbo, told me it's a T28. It's very laggy in comparison to a T2.. Remind me, full boost is about 3.5-4k RPM, yeh? Think my stock turbo hits full boost about 2k RPM.

Stock gauges aren't very accurate though if you plan to increase boost pressure. If it's stock, then an OE gauge will do the job just fine.

Hey BriC good to meet you again  :D
Thanks a lot for the comments and info regarding the turbo, yeah your right it is a little laggy but a kinda prefer it like this, also whilst driving steadily the turbo dosent have to work as hard so this is prolonging its life right?
your 5 looks sweet mate i can remember seen it when i came to pick up mine.  :D

Yeh, it's good on the motorway anyway I found, obviously off boost you're using less fuel!

Cheers mate, it's getting there. Still got a few things I wanna do / change :D

Right I got my 5 started today for the first time in a week due to the snow however after a couple of minutes running I heard a spluttering coming from the engine bay, when I opened bonnet they was oil coming out of the dip stick it was squirting everywere! I turned it off waited a few minutes and started it again and it stopped, it was like something was blocked or frozen up Any one got any ideas why it did this or what could have caused it ?
Thanks for any replys:-)

Post by: andybond on 20:50, Wed 08 December 2010
Thats some serious crank case pressureisation that is .

That or the dipstick has come out a bit.

Start it up again , run for a few minutes and turn it off again. It wouldnt suprised me if something had frozen.

Got mine started a few days ago as well , not been anywhere yet mind !

cheers for reply lads, everything seams to be good again :)  where would i find the breather pipes ?
Title: Re: My R5 GTT
Post by: Ash-Lee on 22:31, Sat 11 December 2010
There's one coming from the rocker cover, it 't's off onto the inlet manifold and goes onto the breather pot and intake hose for the turbo (if all the OE kit is still under the bonnet)

This is how the 5 looks now  :(
(http://i961.photobucket.com/albums/ae96/dj_craig_/my%20R5GTT/DSC00232.jpg)
i have taken it off the road as it has now ran out of tax but am planning to get a few jobs done before putting it back on the road i will post pics az and when jobs get done, this is my new car please dont laugh too much
i only paid 250 for it, 1 lady owner from new and it runs on fresh air, i must add its totally diffrent from driving the 5 its bouncing all over on its soft suspension at least it makes it over pot holes without crippling me and gets me to work on time, them bumpers are going too need some attention though!

Its been a while since i updated my thread so this is how things are at the minute. I  have decided to take the 5 off the road for this year as i am going to get it mint for a respray at the begining of next year and use it for summer only. So this is what i have done upto yet, took bumpers and skirts and arches off and found this

:(  i have got some new sills just waiting for them to be fitted, i have replaced disks and pads and rear wheel bearings and started painting underseal everywere, the only place i can see any rust is on the sills and the rear bumper mounts wich i have had a go at myself lol

yes mate your right    there both sorted now, well passenger side is not 100% but better than it was. A previous owner had drilled the hinge and hammered a bigger pin in wich split the top lug on the door  :? (http://i961.photobucket.com/albums/ae96/dj_craig_/my%20R5GTT/DSC00321.jpg)

this is my next job and it looks a lot harder than the door pins   (http://i961.photobucket.com/albums/ae96/dj_craig_/my%20R5GTT/DSC00329.jpg)
just cannot wait to get it back on the road now.

Thanks alot mate its taking time but its getting there, have you still got yours? Am sure I saw it for sale a few month ago

Unfortunately not. It went about 5 months ago. Owned by someone on RTOC though, and he seems very enthusiastic and seems to be looking after it, which is nice.

I didn't use it anymore - I had a BMW 535i Sport as well, and I preferred using that 95% of the time, so I sold the two and bought a 1999 M5, which is pretty much a perfect car IMO. Costs a bomb to keep on the road, but you can't skimp on these cars!

Things havent gone to plan this year as i was made redundant from work and the money i had saved for a respray started to slowly dwindle, so looks like its guna be next year now, as i only want to use it for 6 months out of the year my plan now is to get a garage to keep her in over winter, i have finally got the welding sorted tho (http://i961.photobucket.com/albums/ae96/dj_craig_/my%20R5GTT/DSC00424.jpg)
