Evo 5 that is !!
Don't quite know how it happened but as of next week it looks like I will be driving an Evo 5
Always wanted a 5 or 6 & this one came up on the cheap through a mate so I coulodn't say no.
Grabbed a couple of piccies last night on the phone (which seems to have a scratch across the left side of the lens :( )

Spec so far 22/2/2010
HKS airfilter
HKS BOV
Front & rear strut braces
Coilovers
18" Speedline turini's
Mishimoto alloy rad
Scorpion de-cat & downpipe
Mongoose cat back exhaust
walbro fuel pump
Evo 8 MR turbo
Poly rear diff bushes & front ARB's
-
Congratulations! It looks pure evil
-
love the evo :D
-
Very nice Steve 8)
I'm looking at white 5's for when my KA sells. And James is on a 4 hunt too :D
-
Very nice.
I had my eye on a Met Grey 4 last year, the colour was important because they always seem to be white.
But it wasn't to be, lucky really because given my financial situation shortly afterwards i would have had to get shot of it anyway.
Maybe one day i will look into them again, at the moment i've gone all OAP wafting about in the Saab.

:) not anymore want a silver 5 or 6 :) but on hold for few months due to recent edition to my ever expanding family need to sell the zafira gsi to get a land rover first then look into evo's again
so Steve when you taking me fir a drive : )
-
When I pick it up (should be Tues night) & get the ins sorted on it... £720 F/C...ouch, but fook it i'm treating myself !
-
I had a crazy quote ~£450 when i was looking last year, i assume this was in error because it seems to have tripled now.
Has it got security? I don't think they have from factory and every insurance company i tryed insisted on a tracker being fitted.
Make sure you check the 'AYC' light comes on and off on the dashboard, some sneaky people unplug them and the diffs are something ridicolous like £5000 from Mitsubishi. :o

You can get the diffs alot cheaper else where new or a refurbed jobbies only know as I have been looking into them just in case I get one and need to do the job :D
Does look fantastic though Steve as per facebook thread well jealous :D
-
I'll keep that in mind. 8)
They should be bombproof if serviced correctly though.
Jealous myself, black always looks good when waxed up all shiny! 8)
-
Eeeeeeevo! luvly! 8)
-
Yeah new diff is around 2k from the stealers.... about £400> from anywhere else 2nd hand..
Thing is with 4's is the crank walk issues, it's because of the thrust bearings & so if the clutch gets loaded hard it yanks at the crank sideways & wears the bearings :(
Can't wait till next week, got alot of sorting out to do, the Rover needs to go ASAP as well.
It will be worth it ... Boost up to 1.1 bar & away we go .. happy days.
-
superb evo steve,i do love the 5s i had my eye on one a few years back, but settled for an 8 the missus liked it better you know what women are like  if you keep her service mate you should have no problems bud what is she pumping out standard? the great thing about em is you put on an exhaust and decent filter and remap another 100 horses no probs, happy motoring anyway bud enjoy 8)
-
According to the last RR figures she's slightly underpower, I recon it's a weak actuator or maybe worst case the wastegate on the turbo... it's running .9bar at the mo, looking to prob run it up to 1.1 bar or maybe slightly more once remapped.
Needs a decat pipe for sure.
-
Actuators are prone to getting a bit rusty crusty.

looks brilliant steve! 8)
what your plans for it mate?
-
for now new downpipe & de-cat, then ecuflash remap
-
 can't believe you have knackered the diff already thought I was the only one whom was unlucky
-
luv it steve... u lucky git :D im sure it will be runnin silly bhp when u get the evo bug...
-
Well the diff may or may not be knackered, the jury is still out on that one.. getting the AYC fluid changed later today to see of it sorts it. To be fair the bloke did say it got noisey sometimes. Love it though, glad I bought it.
-

fingers crossed it's just the ayc oil that needs changing/ flushing through
-
yay, AYC done & noises gone, just need to sort the actuator issues now RE the lazy boost :)
Bonus is I also found the paperwork for the alarm & somewhere that sells fobs for it, happy days :)
-
Nice one. 8)
A big relief as well i imagine.
-
Yeah a big relief, no AYC light on the dash though on start up..hmmmm..
Fitted a system in the car today, got the alarm working off a fob & no noises from the diff yet. New actuator next week to see if the boost problem gets sorted & then fit an EBC & get remapped to run 1.5 bar, should see 340bhp
-
Blimey these Evo's are expensive to maintain lol.
Sounds like a wheel bearing has gone on the rear..that will be £160 then, may need a new thermostat or waterpump as well as the temp stays really low at the mo & the rad gets hot... hopefully get the car on Evoscan sometime soon to flash out the fault codes....
Still love it though :)

 £160 just for a bearing feck me.

What are Evo's like for reliabilty in general? I always imagined they were bullet proof. Thats going to be a beast.. keep us posted :)
-
They are like any car, if you geta good one you get a good one; if it's bad it's bad!
Mine's somewhere in the middle
-
8) Do you get much lag? what kind of rpm does it really take off?
-
no real lag at all mines a little lazy though (actuator) but just over 3k is full boost IIRC on a standard car, they pull like stink as well :)
-

Steve I have an obd2 reader matey that may be able to get rid of some of your fault codes but unfortunstky it doesn't do all codes.
-
You can buy the connectors and i'm sure someone in the Evo scene will have the appropriate software so you can connect it up to a PC.
Theres a load for my Saab, even ready made maps. Tempted to flash the 210BHP map on mine.
-
Yeah there are the same for Evo's, ecuflash I think it's called.
Hopefully got a guy coming to take a look with evoscan soon, at least I'll know what probs I have or don't have.
-
Steve, if you're going for 1.5 bar, don't forget to change the fuel pump. The standard one is only good for 1.3 bar, apparently.....
-
Slight update as i'll be adding some bits over the next week or so.. Parts on the way are..
Stainless manifold, 3" downpipe + de-cat, new turbo as i think mine has issues with the wastegate poppet not sealing, mishimoto (sp) alloy race radiator & some poly rear diff bushes & front ARB bushes (which look a right PITA to fit BTW), then see if I can sort the idle control out as it's playing up !
Prob get it geekmapped as well & run 1.4 bar boost
-
Alright steve .... Thought you had been kidnapped by the Japs
Hasnt taken you long to start tweeking the 5 then
-
Well I usually start with the suspension but this had it all done so it allows me to get into the serious stuff sooner
-
atleast thats done then , What sort of power are you hoping to be gaining out of your new additions once mapped up Etc ? you going to have it live mapped ? Been hearing this is the way forward . so the ford scene says ....
-
Yeah will prob just flash a map onto the rom using ecuflash. Will be hoping to hit around 350 with 1.4 bar, maybe 1.5 bar...
-
Got my new evo 8 MR turbo today, same spec as my turbo but single flapper so sort of an upgrade :)
Also got my stainless manifold, to be fair it looks pretty well made considering I got it cheap..
Decat is in the car, downpipe on the way & ally rad should be here Friday as well.. think i'll be busy this weekend :)
James if ya fancy working on a different car pop round.lol.

Would love to matey, really do like the look of your EVO hasn't taken you long to modify the engine
-
Decat & new downpipe fitted, feels more responsive even at 0.4 bar
Roll on the weekend & then it's onto the rad, turbo & manifold... & prob the boost cut, lol.
-
hey steve, how are you getting on with your power figures? see you have been a busy boy with the parts  you should see a good gain with your mods,im running full stainless exhaust, air filter and walboro fuel pump and a remap and ran 351bhp @ 25psi with 315 lbft of torque on the rollers, the operator told me to get a bigger actuator, boost controller a turbo elbow, and a hard pipe for the induction kit and should be nearer the 400 mark anything over that your speaking cams, injectors and some serious cash  but what the hell there great cars enjoy 8)
-
I hope to see 350 with the mods but will have to see
-
cool mate fingers crossed she makes it 8)
-
Should do with a bit more boost as well :)
-
A few piccies I took yesterday..

Thats very nice Steve 8) The wheels really suite it.
What are those bung type bits in the manifold for? Its nice and shiney :D
-
The standard mani has SAS pipes that supposedly act like mild anti-lag or something, I've just binned them as they look gash & apparently do feck all really, a bit like some of the bits on the GTT I suppose, lol.
-
Ok fitted the rad today & looked at the turbo, swapped actuators over & the new one is wrong it seems ! Put the actuator off the new turbo on my old turbo & i have boost !!!
Bugger as I paid £350 for the other turbo, suppose it's a good spare though.. or send it to CR for a hybrid

Hybrid matey, you know a standard turbo is no good for you in your constant quest for power. Youll get 350bhp and then still want more
-
I think i'd be happy with 350 actually after being in Johns 6, the thing is awesome 8)
-
This is the best car on this forum...and we can still say its a 5!! looks awesome mate.. love it. Those bits all look like they are going to make it even more scary! awesome 8)
-
Been out testing the car tonight & wow it's fecking awesome, boosts to 1.1 peaks at 1.2 & drops & holds 1 bar through the revs to 7k, nice
Need to test & get the boost up to 1.5 bar & 350bhp hehe
8)
-
Class mate, i fancy one ov these
-
Well had the car on the RR today just to see how it was in near standard form, mods are 3" exhaust from turbo elbow & HKS filter.
Car made 298.5 bhp @ a bar boost, happy with that.

Top Darts - you should have said you were going to SPC I would have popped along matey :D Good result though bet your chuffed matey you just need to find another 50 bhp to hit your target. (what is the Evo 5 standard bhp?)
Have you had it remapped yet?? as you said above more boost will defo assist and I am not sure what the OE injectors limits are.

Standard is around 280bhp IIRC so up 20bhp nearly with just downpipe, filter & de-cat.
-
Hoping the manifold studs turn up today so I can get the stainless manifold fitted up, supposed to be getting it road mapped tonight !
going for 1.5 bar
-
I don't want to speak to you.

lol @ Ash-lee's green eyes
How did you get on lad? These evo's seem to be fit for a serious amount of power.
-
Manifold studs never turned up :(
Hopefully today & re-book for next week for the re-map..... at least it gives me a few days of driving to check for leaks...
-
I'm really loving the Evo, pulls like a train even at a bar boost, was out last night giving it a blast & I'm getting used to the way it handles now  awesome on corners but once you commit you have to keep going, if you lift the back end gets erm, a bit light
-

Sounds like my 205 GTI's, had some proper brown trouser moments on wet corners. If you enter a corner to fast, just keep your foot on it and hope for the best. I have never been so scared. That's what happens when an 18 year old lad hops into one after owning a 1.2 Clio.
-
i loved that clio :(
-
Man I love my car  so much fun, a bit like a 4wd version of my old GTT. (which I miss  )

That's just how I see mine. My Evo is the only other car, along with the gtt, that makes me grin every time I drive it
I've been down your way 'ish' a bit lately Steve. My latest 'Sunday Afternoon Route' goes down the A29 through Ockley, then clipping Horsham, before heading back up the A24 8)
-
There are some good roads down this way...the ones without potholes that is :x

I like the Ockley back roads lovely drive in the summer but as Steve's says gotta watch out for the fecking potholes.
Steve i love your Evo to matey looks fantastic wish I had the cash for one.
-
The back roads round Ockley are A LOT better than the ones round here :(
-
Having the recall work done on my car tomorrow, new rear arms, just hope they don't break anything that's chargeable :|

Fingers crossed all is good, I take it is being done at Mitisi is that the Mitis garage down Hove / southwick way? I love going past there they have an old Rally Evo upstairs looks fantastic.
-
Yeah Southwick, gonna be spending the day in Brighton by the looks of it...

Thinking of changing my rims & dropping down to 17's
White 17 Enkei's
(http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i96/24175mypics2/IMGP0061-1.jpg)
Or keep the 18" Speedlines?
What do you think ?

Keep the 18's look awesome they look very similair to then Enkei's anyway just possible change the colour of them
-
I'd LOVE a set of the Enkei WRC multispokes for mine (the same as those TME ones, only wider), but I can't fit 17's on my car because of the brakes :(
I do plan on getting my wheels powder coated white though.
-
A guy on the MLR wants to do a swap + £100 for my rims, the wheels have been refurbed as well.. tempting as tyres are easier to get & a little cheaper as well, plus it should handle better, not that it's bad now though.
Also found my fuel filler now leaks, brimmed the tank sat & it was dripping from it, looks like new filler pipe, I bet thats a fun job to do as well :(
-
Sounds a good deal Steve for that I would be very tempted to do it.
The Evo needs more repairs than the 5 GTT
-
12 years on English roads will rust any car without underseal !

My mate just bought some white turini's so tried 2 last night, they look ok but I think on my car with the tints the stealth look is better, the white are in your face look at me... lol.

See now I prefer the 6 but only cos I think the front bumper, rear lights, spoiler and standard alloys look nicer but that 5 looks the nuts in black.... Don't see many black Evo 5s !!!

I miss my evo
