Title: Non-Renault.... the new WIP
Post by: 5teve L on 16:51, Fri 14 August 2009
Picked her up last night, happy with the car but it does need some FTT touches ;)
220 Gsi Turbo in charcoal, just has a dv & exhaust at the moment but.....
Suspension is 1st port of call, then address the rims, then the engine..
The 1st thing to sort is the leaky tank & loose rear ARB.

Very nice and rare mate Im partial to a nice Rover/MG... I used to have the GTi with the M-series NA engine

Then a couple of years later a T-series  engine Coupe.

I have the Rover Dealer manual (RAVE) somewhere if you want a copy..

That Gti looks sweet.... I used to have a coupe as well running on DTA with cams etc, made 260bhp & 260 ftlb @ 13psi, thing was an animal :)

Apparently there are 52 Gsi turbo's left & 32 Gti turbo's..

I am owner of www.RoverCoupe.net (http://www.RoverCoupe.net)

Alot of useful info for the T-series turbo engine on there !!

Fitted new fuel tank, rear ARB polys, got the front ARB's & the Koni's with jamex springs to fit this weekend. Also pick ed up the rare front spolier for the bottom of the bumper..

Was toying with the idea of buying a used bottom end with forged pistons but I'm not sure now...
Title:
Post by: James5 on 17:44, Fri 28 August 2009
Steve can't wait to see this up and running, I may have to pop over to johns with you to have a look.
With ref to forged bottom end it may be worth it for you matey as you do like the option of some power I am not to sure what the standard bottom end on those are good for power wise.
Title:
Post by: 5teve L on 18:18, Fri 28 August 2009
Well they will only really run around 12-14psi really as the pistons break around the ringlands...
Gary was running 18 through his & bent a rod. lol..
FMIC  on the list as well as the one on the car is puny & sits above the rad in front of the turbo & ex manifold.lol.

you ever seen the fiesta RS turbos , the manifold / turbo are smack bang up close to the RAd not only that on t3 conversion 90% of the time the Actuator dents the rad i still think the Renault 5's lay out is best !

I had a T3 2ltr conversion on my Fiesta RST ..  had serious amounts of over steer most of the time..  I never did learn my lesson to grow up and stop modding old cars.   Thanks for the reminder of those days

Done the fronts, rears are rusted into the rear bushes :(
Now I need smaller rubber or some different rims as they rub on the front :(

Ok so the rims sold on ebay & the guy picked them up this afternoon, car is sitting on axle stands till Monday night when I pick up the Superleggera's    ...

Odd thing about the sale on ebay was that I started at 50 & I swear I put a BIN of 100... but they sold for 155    ...not that I'm complaining as the Superleg's cost me 100 now that means   8)

Will do some updates as it goes along :)

Post by: 5teve L on 20:42, Sat 05 September 2009
Only driven the car when I picked it up, feels slow at the moment compared to the old GTT, but not like uber slow & it will pull to 150mph no probs.....won't take long to change the engine spec though

James, will try to pop round Tues if I get the rims on :)
Just need to try to ge the rear suspension on as well at some point ..

Just waiting for the new rims, trailing arm bushes & poly rears, then it's cut the old suspension off & burn/knock/cut the remains out..lol... fit rear koni's & bushes & off I go..
Title:
Post by: 5teve L on 20:36, Sat 12 September 2009

Fitted the poly bushes & hope to have it all together early next week, put the superlegs on the front & i'm glad I got them now as they look awesome !

Post by: James5 on 20:14, Fri 18 September 2009
Steve that looks fecking awesome
Title:
Post by: LEE on 11:21, Sun 20 September 2009
Looks well nice love them alloys, they seem to look good on most cars !!

The ARB that needs welding is it the passenger side ?? As I had to get my coupe done... Apparently its a common issue and always the passenger side !!
Title:
Post by: 5teve L on 17:02, Sun 20 September 2009
Yeah pass side Lee, always is the passs side as you say ..........
Title:
Post by: James5 on 20:55, Sun 20 September 2009
Saw and went in the rover tonight fecking awesome car.
Title:
Post by: 5teve L on 19:08, Mon 21 September 2009
Now the car is running & the boost is up she pulls realy well, just need to sort the rest of the poly bushes & hope to get the rear ARB welded later this week (40) then had a quote for 180 to sort the dent & scratches on the pass side, 80 to paint the wing when I can be arsed to sort it..
Then FMIC & bigger turbo on the way.
The T25 on the car is almost new so will be up for sale (idela upgrade for the GTT ;) )

Doesn't feel anywhere near as tight as the GTT did yet, hopefully the full poly kit & the rear ARB will sort this :)
Title:
Post by: LEE on 22:31, Mon 21 September 2009
You'd probably get a wing in that colour from a rover breaker cheaper than that !!
Title:
Post by: 5teve L on 09:09, Tue 22 September 2009
