Hi Gents,Back for more advice.Fitted another T25 out of rover,no smoke finally...old turbo seals gone.Running standard boost, car now not boosting till 4-4.5k revs and gauge moving only slightly.Help me, being a novice at this, someone explain how it all works, does the actuator need adjustment to up the boost, still runing standard carb, twin port actuator off t2...at least no smoke...mark
-
wind the actuator up matey, have u got a boost controller? if not get one, the turbo u have is too big 2 be running standard boost it needs turnin up dont go mad though because u have a standard carb? have u got an aftermarket pressure gauge u need 2 know what psi is runnin through the fuelling? where r u?
-
shorten the arm, wind it in?...need a boost controller and boost gauge?...carefull with the standard carb setup?or find a group a setup?...mark
-
sorry m8 in birtley..washington,chester-le street,north east...
-
group a set-up would be nice but standard carb is fine if u put bigger jets in?? wind the arm in on the actuator on the turbo see what it does if boost isnt upped wind the arm out basically trial an error ;) my car has a profec spec b greddy boost controller so i dont mess about with actuator's or crappy bleed valves lol

to up the boost you wind the actuator in ie shorten the arm.a boost controller on a carbed engine is a complete waste of time everytime you use it you will be altering the afrs (AIR FUEL RATIO) which can lead to detonation ie the gasket failing or worse.

check for boost leaks also as that will stop you creating boost

I've got a T25 and it felt REALLY laggy at standard boost. Ideally you want to run at 15psi+ for it to start feeling good but even then don't expect much under 3.5k RPM.
As above, make sure fuelling is correct for whatever boost you run.
-
cheers again fellas, let ya know how i get on....mark

You might want to get a bigger actuator with a T25.
Looks like you are not far from me as i live in Chester Le Street. I'm no expert but have owned 6-7 fives over the last 10-12 years!
Could maybe have a look some time..

If this is a rover t25 turbo has the compressor dump valve been removed? If so properly? And as said above standard boost on a t25 will feel laggy but should still got more than a slight moveme t if the needle sounds like boost leak matey.
Get a pic up of your setup so we can have a look

will post some pics tonite..removed the compressor dump valve leaving gasket, outer cover...will get a photo posted...thanks mark
-
Thats the problem then, with no internals in the dump valve all the boost is going back into the inlet.
I did the same with the first one i had, the turbo was whizzing it's tits off but nothing was happening. You need to rebuild the dump valve and connect it up or make a blanking plate and block it off.
-
your saying that the outer is no good as a blanking set up....needs to be flush?or connect it up by replacing the inners?
-
what part does the compressor dump valve play?...mark
-
Ive got a cast alloy blanking plate to fit where the original dumpvalve goes on a tomcat t25 if your interested.
The dumpvalve has to be removed fully & blanked off as the boost will leak back into the inlet side of the compressor.
