hi all
rite iv just brought a r5 gtx but its got all the parts changed over off a gtt including the vin and plates.i did have it for sale on here but closer inspection of my white turbo revealed lots of rust(and i mean lots)so im thinking of taking all the parts off the white 1,stripping them both to bare shell and swaping all the bits over to make 1 good car out the 2 using the gtx shell as its mint with no rust anywhere.would i need to change anything else over on the gtx shell apart from the vin and plates to reshell it and make so its still a gtt but better shell as they are both exactley the same just diferant vins and plate?
dont know if this makes sence to any1 but can any1 help me on this.
thanks
-
does the gtx have rear discs aswell
-
i think so mate(not got the car yet so dont know)but if not ill put the rear beam off the gt on it.
everything of the white 5 will be going on it.
just wont to know if there are any other vins anywhere on the shells?
thanks
-
i am not sure on this one mate
-
i cant see why it would not be ok.all 5 shells are the same apart from the 5 door models and a couple of drill holes here and there for the kit.
-
yeah be fine , just take care swapping the vin plates , tale tale sign of a vin change is they just screw the plate on , potrivit it exactly where it should be , waitttttttttttttttt doesnt the gt shell have a number across the drivers strut? right next to the strut cap ?
-
im pretty sure thats a paint code mate,so the haynes manual says anyway.
could be wronge tho...
-
check it fellah just to be sure lol
-
i sapose theres got to be more to it otherwis somebody could buy a shitter for £100 go out and (ROB)themselves a nice mint gt turbo worth a fcouple of k and just changed the plates and vin????
too easy..surely the french thought of this when building it..but then theres the logbook, without that its useless..maybe it is that easy.i dint know but i could do with finding out as i dont want to get rid of it and then find out it can bo done.

can anybody give me anymore help with this??

Regardless of how similar the shell of the car is, what your thinking of doing is illegal.
Isn't this classed as changing the cars identity or 'ringing'.
There should be a number stamped onto the inner wing by the suspension strut.
-
i did think it would be classed as ringing but i allways thought that the stamped number on the inner wing was a paint code.
im not guna bother now if then thats the case...
-
there is a vin number stamped ontop of the drivers front strut
-
its not a paint code , to long , i
-
its the vin (or chassis number)
and yes, its illegal, to change the cars identity to one of another car....
please dont do it, its people that do things like that that put everyone elses insurance up
