Title: R5 Rivalry
Post by: sloany on 17:40, Mon 30 June 2008: Is there much rivalry between the R5 GTT & a Punto GTT

dunno if i have crossed a line asking this, only coz they both have same capacity engine with turbos

just wanted some light shed on it thats all

you will all get to know me soon enough lol i havent got a clue so plenty of questions will be coming from me in the near future lol

Post by: scratcher on 20:18, Mon 30 June 2008: there's a few punto gt's round my way, i've only spoke to one of the guys and that was for him to tell me he was fed up of the fiat and wanted to buy mine in a petrol shop. nobody ever seems to want rid of a 5.
and out of the fords i'd prefer a fiesta turbo. i like the look of little cars more, and a mate has one that makes me crap myself, 0-62 was timed at 5.64!!

I love the look of the RST, especially in the dolphin grey or whatever it's called, drove 3 of them & absoloutly hated them, i'd rather have a cossy.

haha, if only. i'd have loads. they're selling for 20 odd grand for good ones. i'm well into me fords and i've always wanted one. my dad used to have a saff cossie when they came out and i remember that shifting.

R5 turbo has always been my fave thats why i got one [when i was old enough to enjoy it without the insurance sting that is]

my mate was taking the piss sayin the 5's the most unreliable turbo car going, guess who's got their rs turbo in the garrage takin the engine out!
just gotta look after them and they're great.

ive spent sooo much dough on my 5 in the last while and theres stil more to go
but 1 thing...the looks u get is unbeleivable
and surprisingly my insurance is not so bad

I think it's because you don't see any Renault 5's in general. They are all scrapped. I take mine to school, I'm a teacher and the kids think it's mint, they say "love that Ali G car Sir, does it really do a 140"

Post by: James5 on 22:30, Fri 04 July 2008: I have had 132mph in mine according to my GPS I didn't want to go any faster felt like the car was shaking to bits still had a few 1000 revs to go aswell so I think i could have had more. :D

Post by: chrisb on 05:51, Sun 06 July 2008: When mine was new i had 130 on the speedo as you come off the M27 onto the M3 on the concrete dual carriageway bit a few miles up on the way to London , flat straight and level but you have to allow for inaccuracy so it was probably just over 120.
Been round Millbrook hillclimb and banked circuit at 155 in a big Vauxall Senator barge, that was fun.

Post by: Ash-Lee on 16:16, Sun 06 July 2008: There is a fair bit of innaccuracy, even on my standard wheel + tyre size combo the GPS said i was doing 92 and the speedo was just over 100. :shock:

Post by: big dave on 17:13, Sun 06 July 2008: i got 103 out of my 5 but it was running rough and turbo boost kept goin flat if you no what i mean. the gt punto we got 117 with a bit moe to go in the wet on the wat to bolton. the punto handels like the titanic compared t my 5 so the R5 is the better car in my opnion.

Was behind a s2000 at the lights, he was amazed to see me on his bumper all the way upto a 120, before we both had to slow. Good job to as dont think id have wanted to go any quicker in it, had alot more left in it though.

120 in a 5 feels alot faster than in any other car lol!
