Lol,i mean i've taken the turbo off & so i have hoses unconnected & bits missing under there,i will take some pictures of the chargecooler installation as well as the turbo if you like though :D
There is a picture in the gallery of how it was before i added a few bits.

If u see desaster,i see oportunity !
So let's see what u have there...but naked ;)
-
Blimey what happened to that, were you running alot of advance, not enough fuel or too much boost...or ALL three?lol,
I did a similar thing to my old GT,running 20psi without checking fueling & it was pinking....i blew 2 valves in half(yes they looked like they'd exploded),they dropped into no 3 & did the liners as they stuck to the rings & scraped big lines into them.
-
nice, most of cost an arm and a leg to fix   :x
-
Yup...to mutch boost for the allready enritched AFR ! Normaly i feel the knock but that night it striked like ligtning ! :(
But as i've said...1.6 it's in and in 2 weaks up for runing in the big league !
I'm in the middle of his belly right now ! 8)
I will suply some fresh pictures...in my own post : http://www.renault5gtturbo.com/forum/vi ... php?t=1234 (http://www.renault5gtturbo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1234)

I totaly AGREE with DJ Dark ! :D
-
Thanks you guys :D
Got some sticky rubber & some coilovers as well (toyo R888's & spax rsx) so i hope to be into the 13's on the strip this year :D Road legal tyres as well :D
-
Awesome 8) Mmmmmm chargecooler :)
-
sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!! :D obviously alot of time spent with your head buried in there
-
you said you had a chargecooler fitted, just wandering did you notice a difference with the chargecooler on as gttuning said they were not nessesary- this is what they said
"Chargecoolers? None of the following use chargecoolers. Mitsubishi Evo, Subaru Impreza, Nissan Skyline, Ferrari F40 and Porsche 911 twin turbos nor do we! Big intercoolers are used on all of these vehicles. Not only are chargecoolers of little use, but can split internally, dumping all the water into the engine instantly destroying the engine we have seen two cars this has happened to.
-
Put it this way, i was driving on the motorway the other night, gave it a bit of stick, the inlet temps rose to over 40 degrees so i thought i'd stick it on & they dropped to the 20's within seconds,it will be in the summer that i will notice it i reckon.I suppose they can split but they are supposed to be able to take at least 30 psi.
FMIC are supposed to be better especially on track etc....i just liked the thought of the chargecooler & always wanted one,i may change it in the future.
-
so u would say its a worthwhile investment to buy one
-
Like i say its down to preference really, alot of people go for LARGE FMIC,(which in the winter suffer from carb freeze),you only need something say the size of a cozzy 4x4 cooler, bigger isn't always better, the other reason people prob go for FMIC is the cost, say £250 against £600+ for a chargecooler,i prefere the chargecooler, but as i say the test will be in the summer when its much hotter. You can always run an intercooler with the chargecooler :D
-
Yeah,carb freezing...me,tested,true !
The problem ocures only on the long road,in the city, there is no problem
The easy solution is a piece of carton from a box,put it in front of the intercooler, and stop the airflow trough it ! :D
-
UPDATE
Saftey devices rear cage in now & stripped the rear out, removed the sound deadening under the carpet as well, fitted the rear suspension, got an Apexi AVC-r to control the boost,MB performance downpipe/elbow combo is here & will be fitted by the weekend, got to fit the front coilovers & get her ready for Santa Pod on the 25th March where i hope to get into the 13's :D gonna be running 1.5 bar boost & dunlop inferno road legal drag tyres.
Was hoping to get her on the rollers before pod but i don't think thats gonna happen till after now.
-
How mutch does the sound dreadening from under the carpet weight ?
Put some pics with the performance downpipe/elbow pls !
-
Well the sound deadening weighs quite a bit(especially as mine was wet!!),makes for a slightly noisier road car but like i say it does weigh a bit.Trying to decide weather to take out the plastic in the rear as well, all things that aren't needed are being stripped for Pod. :D
Here's the downpipe next to a standard one.
on its own
(http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i96/24175mypics2/10032007145.jpg)
Downpipe cost me 301 euro's delivered from the Netherlands to GB
-
God'damn...301 EUROS ? for a piece of...pipe ?!
I am shure selling my 1.6 conv kit to damn cheap
Btw. regarding weight, the rear plastic weights next to nothing,i removed them allso but only for rattle reasons.
U can take the rear wiper and the motor down, that's around 2kg,and important, take the grill that holds the spare tyre, off completly allso around 2-3kg!
P.S. Anyway the downpipe is great,i will steal some manufacturing ideeas for my own remanufactured exhaust ! :P
It look's like a 60mm diameter ! Or am i wrong ?

?????
Its 2.4 inch but if you're making one it could be whatever size you want :D
Thanks for the weight saving tips, forgot about the wiper motor.
-
Fitted the downpipe & coilovers, got a tarmac rear spoiler to fit & i also bought one of these to tune my carb properly http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/xcar ... t=0&page=1 (http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/xcart/product.php?productid=16235&cat=0&page=1)
Will be down at Santa Pod 1/4 mile on the 12/13th May,so we'll see what times i get :D
-
Carb spec & results so far;
Spec;
1.3 main jet
1.1 air corrector
1.0 1st stage
1.1 2nd stage
AFR results after adjusting mix screw on idle
idle 14.5-15.1 (lumpy cam i reckon, although it may be jetting)
Light throttle 10's which is way to rich
On boost 13's which is way to lean for 1.4 bar boost
So i will be putting in a 1.2 main,1.25 air corrector, leave the 1st stage & open the 2nd stage to 1.3 & see how she does from there :D
-
hows the chargecooler performing now that the weather is getting hotter?
-
Seems ok,but my charge temp gauge has packed up!!
Im looking into getting a Mike Rainbird one to replace it soon though so i'll let you know.
-
dont think i will be getting chargecooler as i just bought k-tec fmic and it looks the dogs bollocks, although its not on my car yet
-
I must admit i've been thinking of getting a FMIC just for the look 8)
-
u can still get one and use it with the chargecooler cant you?,thats what bbpt said on there website anyway
-
You can use it in pair but than its too big boost circle. (Just my opinion cuz I haven't try it)
2 Rick: Just a little suggestion... Don't go on such big enricher cuz your carb will overflow. Use 130 or 135 main, 90 air corrector and 1.20 2nd enricher. First one leave as it is.
-

-
i dont know what that means but when i get round to doing my carb i will use this information.
can the jets u mentioned be used on a group A carb aswell?
-
"A" group is in fact carb with enlarged venturi to 27 or 27.5 (standard is 25) and changed jets. 130 or larger main jet and 90 air corrector. Some group "A" carbs have enlarged 2nd enricher (standard is 100) and drilled out first enricher (it is drilled cuz it isn't jet but hole on body of the carb).
Let us know what boost you're planning to run and we will decide what would be best solution

2nd stage is the 'fixed bush' Jurre
Every car is different, don't go drilling the jets unless you are VERY confident that you know what you are doing & you have a WIDEBAND controller to check the afr's or you'll have 1 fecked carb good for the bin.
My spec at the moment is 1.3 main,1.0 air corrector,1.0 1st stage,1.3 2nd stage,i have a problem with my idle jet at the moment but i have high 11's - low 12's on full boost @ 1.4 bar, thats with a standard venturi.
I may try a 1.1 a/c to see if it leans off boost a little more but with the idle jet problems i'm facing a loosing battle i feel.
I recently stripped down an MSM carb,it had a 27mm venturi,1.5 main,0.9 a/c,1.25 1st stage,1.2 2nd stage & it was massivly overfueling on idle
-
2nd stage is the 'fixed bush' Jurre Wink
Thanks for the correction GTTBoy
Also, must agree that setup depends from car to car.
-
to be honest i want as much boost as possible without me changing a head gasket every time i go to the shops.
not sure if this helps but i got a ktr 180 turbo aswell
-
If you have a standard carb Rick then i'd drill the main out to at least a 130 for now,you prob want a 140 without having to strip the carb down & buy a wideband or pay a rolling road by the hour to keep checking the fueling on boost,i've lost count of how many combinations i've tried now
You can't really just guess it but if you don't mind overfueling a bit go for a 1.3 or prob a 1.4 main with the standard a/c,deffo needs to be tested on a wideband before you whack up the boost imo as every car is different.
I have:
1.3 main
1.0 air corrector
1.0 1st stage
1.3 2nd stageStandard venturi
I have a rich spike as im on light throttle (10's) as the car comes on to boost it rises to 13's then on full boost (1.5 bar manifold) it sits high 11's low 12's which should be fine,i just need to get rid of the rich spike on light throttle.
Glad i bought my wideband now though :D
I use the rollers @ Tack n Road in Rainham if i want a power plot, they will tell you if its lean as well mate.
-
cheers
-
Well ran my car at snata pod today, fairly happy with it but it could do with a few tweaks here & there, really felt like it was holding back in 4th.
Slip as follows;
+05090---------reaction time
2.3499----------60ft
6.0828----------330ft
9.1339----------1/8 ET
82.10-----------1/8 mph
11.7030--------1000'
14.0189--------1/4 ET
100.44---------1/4 mph
1st run was a 14.9,2nd run was 14.6 & the 3rd was the 14.01,i did 2 more runs but forgot to pick up the slips but my mate said one was a 14.06.
-
Impressive stats. I know they would be even better next time
-
14.01 impressive.Officialy u beat a stock S2000 !
-
A few more tweaks to the carb & tighten the handbrake so i can get a decent burn out to warm the tyres  & it should get me into the 13's :D
Must admit to running 1.7 bar boost at one point...got a bit carried away with the duty setting on my boost controller
Also beat my mate in his 350 bhp Evo 6
Best he got was a 14.5
-
good times well done :D
-
1st time ive had a good read of this thread....

beautiful mate
-
i thought i would ask Q here instead of doin new topic, does the mk1 clio have the same wheel fitament as the r5 i.e wheel bolts and stuff in same place?
-
2 GTTBoy: I'm in love. Great choice and nicely lowered 8) 8) 8)
2 RickGTT: Everything is the same :) Go for it :!:
-
very nice, the blue looks really bright is it a candy blue?
-
It's Ford Imperial blue.
& yes clio wheels do fit as long as they were for a clio in the 1st place,my mate had some rims meant for a Rover on his old GTT & they rubbed slightly with a 50mm drop (they were 17's but the offset was slightly different)
With the height of my coilovers i had to use 5mm spacers as they just rubbed on the spring platform, no rubbing on the back or front now though & i can still hit full lock :D
-
that picture makes it look like a candy flip effect dark blue and pale blue, well nice. i want to do mine in a candy green , they do some nissan micras in it :D
-
My old 5
(http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i96/24175mypics2/Picture124.jpg)
-
Your bluey is better. This one is to extreme for my taste :?
-
that picture makes it look like a candy flip effect dark blue and pale blue, well nice. i want to do mine in a candy green , they do some nissan micras in it :D
I have a Raider coloured front bumper at the moment so thats why the front looks darker lol
-
i ve seen a skyline in one of my max powers with the exact same paint as on ur old r5
-
this is the colour i want, its a candy flip paint (i think its green over gold but not sure(http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z298/WHOOOSH07/125.jpg)

Just fitted a FMIC to my car.
Started out with this
(http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i96/24175mypics2/01062007328.jpg)
Then i chopped out this
(http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i96/24175mypics2/01062007329.jpg)
Then the test fit
(http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i96/24175mypics2/01062007330.jpg)
Test fit with bumper
(http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i96/24175mypics2/01062007331.jpg)
I've bolted it all up now,i'm just waiting on some pipework so i can test it out.
-
so are u using that in conjunction with ur chargecooler then?
-
Maybe, i'm not sure yet,i have to find somewhere for my pre rad if i do or find 2 smaller pre rads & use them together, i've only changed for two reasons,
1. it fills the big gap in the GTT front bumper better
2. i felt like a change
I reckon the FMIC on its own will be up to the job.
-
and it looks better too 8)
-
Slightly longer pipe run though so i hope lag doesn't increase to much & yeah it deffo looks better :D
-
Some updated piccys

the bumper came out really well
-
the bumper came out really well
LOL, the bumper still needs painting, it's raider blue at the mo, picked up a cool louvred bonnet off ebay as well, will paint it all together.
-
those bonnets lok nice and seem to keep the engine bay temps down
only trouble is with all that bling you will be forever cleaning your hoses and chrome due to rain getting through on top
have to take the rough with the smooth i guess
-
GTTBoy,i see your back is lowered.
I will like to know please,by how many teeth's is it lowered (from the roll bar)
I suppose in front u have -35mm springs
-
I have coilovers on the front & it's dropped nearly all the way down, i think around 50mm, the rear was done before i got the car, i think it would be 1 or 2 teeth, probably 1.
-
Wanna sell your coilovers ?
-
Only just got them, cost me £450 inc. some poly top mount bushes that i found on Ebay :D
-
Had the car on the rollers at Track n Road & she made 207 bhp & 209 lbft torque @ 1.5 bar boost, fueling is a bit on the rich side but thats not a bad thing as it did start to lean toward the top.
-
Lookin very nice if i could pick up one that looked like that i would be well happy x x
-
ya right i would love to buy one as mint as yours how much do you think its worth.
-
Really don't know, 3k+ prob with the way prices are??
Sold my last one for 3k & that was 180 bhp with the carisma GT5 Ltd edition kit.
-
you got some pretty good results-are you planning for some more engine mods or keeping it the way it is?
-
It's prob on it's limit to be honest without having to keep rebuilding it.
Here's a vid of the rollers
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=a0gdZmt6sKM (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=a0gdZmt6sKM)
& the power run, yellow is speed, white is rpms & green is power at the wheels.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOWwQczNuRo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOWwQczNuRo)
-
you hit the magic 200 mark then, bet it goes like a rocket. when you next down pod and what you hoping to get :?:
-
Went to pod Sat, not favourable conditions unfortunatly, only managed 2 runs & one of those i gave it to much off the line & span all through 1st gear & some of second LOL
My 1st run managed 14.3 @ 100mph which is pretty crap, mind you the traction was a big problem.
Gonna fit NOS next, just a 25 shot & get some proper drag slicks.........
Watch this space.
-
That is one massive car mate... real nice..
So the volvo clutch held out then...?
getting mine fitted tomorrow with any luck..
-
Yep clutch is holding up fine, i reckon it will be fine up to around 220lbft & then start to slip after a bit of abuse on the strip.
-
Well the sound deadening weighs quite a bit(especially as mine was wet!!),makes for a slightly noisier road car but like i say it does weigh a bit.Trying to decide weather to take out the plastic in the rear as well, all things that aren't needed are being stripped for Pod. :D
Here's the downpipe next to a standard one.

Downpipe cost me 301 euro's delivered from the Netherlands to GB
Went to their webpage but they don't have such downpipe in offer. I think that price is fair. Maybe it seams too much for piece of pipe but it really isn't just that. It is more stupid to give 50 quids for enlaged elbow and 90 quids for 2.5" downpipe which is in fact only 2.25" wide on turbo exhaust side (K-tec one).
-
technically yes but thers a five simmailiar spec to steves with a t28 and the ktec elbow and downpipe a sidey that ran 11.9 quarter
-
That was running NOS though i think
-
Yeah, but i'm saying its better to give 200 quids for something way better than more than 100 for not so different than standard.
-
have you got a link for that downpipe from the netherlands
-
http://www.mbcarperformance.nl/catalog/ ... cPath=1321 (http://www.mbcarperformance.nl/catalog/index.php?cPath=1321)
-
Looks like they no longer make the downpipes
-
theres that dude on the rtoc whos making some downpipes-from the pics they look quite good
-
Yes, Boris is his online name, RTOC is still down though.
-
If RTOC was reliable you would have been able to get hold of Boris by now. I belive the all in one d/p is alot cheaper than the MB version and of an equal quality with extra options available from boris i.e bungs, heat wrapped, different coating to the D/P, etc.. all for not much more.
-
i was thiinking about buying one but he said hes gonna stick next batch on ebay
-
All painted up with the cool louvres bonnet on.

-
Only just found this site... great forum! 8)
Spent ages just reading through this whole thread and was really enjoyable.... congrats on all the hard work (and changes) and money spent on building your stunning GTT mate.. keep the posts coming..and more pic updates! Great reading about it! 8)
Have you got anything left to do now? whats next? did you fit N20?
-
Really don't know whats next really, will try to stay away from NOS but only time will tell, it all depends on how much i really want the low 13's or even 12 sec 1/4 mile times, i have weighed the car & got it as light as i can without it looking tatty & i want to keep the cage in as i may do some track days this year.
I think if i get the boost up anymore i'm verging on blowing something & i do use the car on the road.
Got a feature in Performance Tuner mag next week
-
car looks very very nice :) :)

Feature pics
Front cover is on the site http://www.performancetuner.co.uk/mepas ... Issue.aspx (http://www.performancetuner.co.uk/mepasite/143/Latest_Issue.aspx)

VERY NICE MOTORS!.

Thanks everyone.
-
yeh thats cool you got a feature, looks superb in the photos 8)

Update, i was loosing a bit of water & the system was getting airlocks so i whipped the head off to fid the H/G on its way out & that no.4 had been detting badly.
Then to top it all off i broke a piston ring putting the liner back on
So it's a new fresh rebuild with standard compression on the way for 2008, ordered the pistons & liners already & at the same time i can get the new clutch in.
I think the damage has been done when i'm driving the car hard & then i get low on fuel, the reserve pump has trouble keeping up & i run lean, of course this happens in a split second & by the time i lift the damage has been done. I have good AFR's according to my wideband & the RR printout & i have very good ACT's so it's not down to either of those, i may have to retard the ignition a bit on the new build so i'll be buying a stethoscope to listen for det on no.4 i think
-
Unlucky.
Have you got that frustrated feeling i always get with my R5? I find it goes away once it's back up and running again. 8)
-
 Ouch, unlucky mate.
I'm sure you will do a decent job on the rebuild and everything will be sweet again.
chris.

Yes, i'm quite pissed off at the moment, but not bothered either if you know what i mean, whats more annoying is that the money i'm spending on the P&L is earmarked for some mickey thomson drag tyres

Hey mate.. theres a great deal on ebay for standard P&L'ers.. about £100 less than normal price... wish I'd seen that when I was buying mine!
That must have been detting for a while...how much boost were u running? a warning for anyones thats detting on high boost to get the fueling sorted before this happens to yours... as it wont last.
Yes, its not the work as much as the expense thats the painful bit.. u'll be grinning and boosting again in no time ..
-
Got some P&L off Bob @ CGB for £190, should be here on Monday or Tues, Been running 1.5-1.6 bar but i think the problem is with the low fuel issue as the AFR's were good all the time on boost unless the tank went low, then it went lean :(
Still, a couple of weeks, maybe less & it will be on the road again :)
Didn't hear any det, will be using a stethescope this time me thinks & trying different jetting in the carb + i finally got my EGT gauge in now.

Not being able to hear the det was a bit unfair.. at least u would have had a warning.. (did u know u can hear det better by opening the center air vents on the dash) thats a good point about when it gets low on fuel...I hadnt thought of that before.. hope the rebuild all goes well.. see u back and boosting in a few weeks 8)
-
Yes i did know about the centre vents ;)
I'm hoping to get some forged pistons now so i'll be cancelling my order tomorrow :)

Nice one.. keep us posted how it goes 8)
-
Sorry to hear about the trouble..
Once you get the new parts in front of you it will be like christmas all over again lol.. Just be dyin to get at it and get it running again..
Did you consider the steel liner option?
I regret not going for the std compression forgies for my car.. You getting the wossner ones from andy?
Gud luck with the rebuild!
Regards
W
-
I will be using Wossner yes, i have some lower comp ones in the pipeline at the moment from a member on RTOC (hopefully) but if they don't come to anything i'll go standard comp & new from Andy @ BB, the used ones have only done a few pod runs & the guy is going to get them out & check them over before committing to selling them :)
Steel liners i won't bother with, i hope it doesn't come back to bite me in the arse though :)
-
So many mixed views on the forged pistons and steel liners combo.
-
I've got wossner low comp forged items in mine, last time i checked they were a bit sooty but in one piece. 8)
I've got the previous owner to thank for those.

Is yours very noisey from cold ?
Do the pistons rattle alot till the car is warm i mean ?
Should have the pistons tomorro or sat i hope, then it's rebuild time :)
More boost this time as well!!
-
I've noticed lately it is very noisy when cold but i think the valve cleareances need checking again i've done about 8'000miles since i last set them.
But as far as i remember it's always been noisy when cold.
-
I think forged pistons do untill they warm up.
-
I think forged pistons do untill they warm up.
Really?? Mine seem the same as the normal pistons.. Maybe mine havnt been run in properly yet or something. Noticed the tapet noise more with the uprated springs with my engine..
Whats boost you thinking off now :D ??
-
Well i'm going to run either a little retard or lots of octane booster & get a stethescope to listen for det, hopefully get 25psi manifold out of her for pod, stick to 21psi day to day, i picked up a campus filler neck today so i can ditch the aux tank, plus i also picked up some 14x 6 1/2 j clio rims for my mickey thompson drag tyres

Sounds awesome 8) bet u cant wait to get it all up and running and flying again :D good luck with it.
-
For sure, i just ripped the aux tank out & fitted a campus filler neck, pistons won't be here till Monday but i may rip the engine out over the weekend & get it on the stand ready to fit them, need to fit the clutch anyway :)
Then Monday i'll order the M/T drag tyres... another £300
-
Bad luck Steve :( but as I can see, you're all right by now and making progress towards an even better GTT... :D
Wish you good look this time around!!
-
Got the pistons yesterday & the tyres today, just need to get around to fitting the pistons, need some new liner seals 1st & wiat for my cylinder hone kit to turn up.

They were a real pain in the arse to fit, had to go to 2 different tyre fitters :)
-
got them pistons fitted yet :?: :)
-
What are the advantages of removing the aux fuel tank?
I had to replace the bracket on mine the other day because it had rotted away and fell off!
-
when low on fuel the reserve pump can't keep up when on boost so runs lean ( when running highish boost )i think?
-

Exactly so on my car, plus it saves weight ;)
No need to worry about it if you are running under 1.5 bar imo, unless you want to save weight of course.
-
got them pistons fitted yet :?: :)
Not yet, been a bit busy with work, stripped the engine yesterday ready to come out, going to try to get the block out & leave the box in.
Need to hone the liners & clean the pistons up a bit, order my AP paddle clutch & then crack on with it, i hope to have it done by next week by doing a bit after work each day.
-
Engines out ready to rebuild., took it out by hand with a mate & left the box in.

-
thats a crackin workshop mate  good luck with the build
-
yeah man, the work shop looks wicked. good luck with the re-build.
d'ya reckon you'd be able to put up a few piccys of how you piped your front mount? i want to run one later this year and just want an idea of where to tube around and that?
-
thats a crackin workshop mate  good luck with the build
I'm hoping if i leave it in there one of the kids will rebuild it for me
Will try to get some piccies of the pipe run but it goes around the subframe on both sides then back across itself & up by the alt on one side & up by the gearbox the other.
-
Just finished building the lump up in the front room

Just need to set my tappets, stick the rocker back on & wait for the paddle clutch to turn up, then drop it all back in.
-
Looking good matey. How was Kel with the engine in the front room
-
She went to bed matey
I rebuilt an engine in the hall of our old place so she's used to it ;)
-
Lauren would physically kill me. It's bad enough when I take a carb apart on the stainless steel kitchen sink. :P
-
alright mate, hows the rebuild going?
i seen the april Performance Tuner in a shop today so i snapped up a copy. its a good feature, the car looks great in it. i love the bit where they talk about Ali G ruining the gt turbo, thought that was well funny.
-
Cheers, the mag feature wasn't too bad was it.
Rebuild is done, it's a bit rattley on idle now but i've been told thats normal for forged pistons with centre pins, so i'll just have to get used to it, it does quieten a bit when hot.
Got carb issues as well at the moment as i gave my carb to someone to help them out & got a duff carb in return it seems.
Accidently ran 2 bar boost through it the other day, fook me it was spinning the wheels in 2nd & 3rd when the boost cut in & that was in the dry :) turned it down to 1.2 at the moment till i can sort the carb out :(
I hope to get to pod on the 31 st May & get into the 12's
-

I just read your 5 feature... great stuff... both yours and the cup looked great 8) nice work... good luck for the next trip to pod! bring on those 12's!
-
Well the latest is that i'm not happy with the way the engine sounds so it's being ripped apart again.
Looks like i'm going with new standard P&L & will be getting to pod later in the year, prob July now :(
-
New findings... it seems my liners could be at fault so i may be having to buy new liners, at least i get to stay forged this way :)
Keep you posted ....
-
thatis one lovely looking car you have there and i love the colour
-
Cheers, yours ain't to shabby either
-

chees mate, yes its a very clean car and gets noticed where ever it goes and turns a few heads
-
Steve... do u have 6x9's in the rear quarters? how did u do this on your 5 with the panels stripped? do u have any pics of them if poss.
8)
-
I do have 6x9's & my old car i had components, i bin the rear panel & get some mdf & cut it to shape so it fits nicely, then covered it in fabric, the speaker box stuff or if you want grey go to a cloth store & find some the colour you want

Cheers, I could just see them in the feature on u'r car... and they looked neatly done.. couldnt work out how you did it. Thats a natural sealed box in that bit so they should sound good too! 8)

How she looks at the moment as i'm waiting for my new T25 :D
(http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i96/24175mypics2/27012007077.jpg)
where did you get your skuttle panel from or did you make it yourself ?
-
I got it from CGB motorsport, i don't actually use them anymore & they just sit out the front of my house
I have a few bits i should put up for sale really :)

Engine is rebuilt, put new liners in & new big end shells so it's almost a complete rebuild, just a few little bits to sort out & i'll fire her up, then it's a short run, drop the oil, new oil & run for a few hundred miles before sticking in some decent stuff.
Can't wait to fire it up :)
Scratched my drivers wing a little though so not happy about that :(
On the plus side i sorted the rattle coming from the timing chain, turns out the tensioner hadn't quite come out far enough so the chain was a little loose.
-
Well done matey be good to see your car back on the roads of Horsham :D let's up the diesel sound has gone now

Good to hear its all back in good shape again now 8) and killed the rattle... that was worth all the hassle just to sort that out.. btw... those scratches can be fixed just by themselves without repainting the whole wing... try Chips-away
-
You got it running yet matey
-
Yep, she runs mate, alot quieter now as well :)
All seems ok apart from the revs hunting a little.
-
Carb sorted, oil leak sorted, rattle from timing chain cover, not sorted, flippin thing
I can live with it though, feck it, i'm not going to risk a leak just for a rattle, it's prob the bolt that holds the vernier in the cam rubbing on the cover
Oil change tomorrow & re-jet the carb for more boost ......
Pod on the 4th July :)
-
Been out doing some testing on my track & at 1.6 bar i'm starting to empty the carb, thats with a 2mm needle jet (1.7 standard) 120 main,135 2nd & a .9 a/c.
Going to go 2.2 needle & get testing again, it holds 12.2-12.3 Afr's in all gears up to 4th where it starts to lean off around 6k to 12.8-12.9 !!
No det though, i had my steth on earlier & didn't hear any, tesco 99 ron & a little retarded ign.
Off to pod on the 4th so i have to prep the car up ready for a good thrashing
Still got a flippin oil leak & a noisey timing chain, i may sort that before pod though.
-
at least there's no det again. i well don't understand how to set up the carb but i like to think i'm slowly catching on.
and where's your track? a real strip or a nice little dual carrage way?
-
sounds good... happy boostin mate! bet that shifts 8)
-
sounds good... happy boostin mate! bet that shifts 8)
Certainly does :) it's getting a handful now, if i run 1.7-1.8 bar it will light the wheels in 1st,2nd & 3rd, it tries now at 1.55-1.6.
Scratcher;
Top secret track info ;)
-
Out testing today getting ready for pod my car sounded a little tappety (7k+ rpms will do that) so went home to check the tappets & found this
(http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i96/24175mypics2/Car%20stuff/02072008314.jpg)
Then i thought i'd sort the rattle from the bolt hitting the cover & it had worn a bit thin, me hitting it with a hammer resulted in this
(http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i96/24175mypics2/Car%20stuff/02072008312.jpg)
So got a little bit of work to do tomorrow after work, may be working by lamp light to get finished. lol.
-
Stick a bit of well chewed bubble gum in there...that will sort it  looking at that rod... u sure u were only doing 7+rpm! lol :D
-
Sorted the leak (well it still leaks a little) & just got back from an excellent weekend at pod with the RTOC, first run saw me into the 13's, then a few more low 14's & high 13's, i was having trouble with the needle jet sealing & bogging down with gear changes so i went back to my 2mm needle.
This just started to lean off as i was crossing the line (13 afrs) but it saw me into the 12's !! 12.9 1st, then a few 13.1's, then a 12.8 & a 12.78 @ 108 mph !!
The mickey t's really help with the starts, best was 1.9 & worst was a 2.1, road tyres was 2.4 !!
Better than i expected so i'm well chuffed :D
A vid of the car, sorry the quality isn't to good.

-
Awesome! thats one fast 5! :D congrats on those times mate! well deserved 8)
-
Mental, whats the 0-60 like now?
-
Mental, whats the 0-60 like now?
Who knows, trapping at 108 i should be close to 220 bhp @ 1.6 bar boost though, going to play with the cam timing & get together the bits to efi the engine, can't get a larger needle to seal so running out of fuel now over 6k rpms, was just into the 13AFR's over the line... normally i'm 12.1 @ WOT so a bit on the risky side.
-
12.78@108, bloody hell that's fast, nice one!
-
well done good times wish i could of made it but work was manic
-
You missed a good day & a funny night, RTOC had the pod all to themselves, there is already plans for another next year.
Here's my slip
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i96/2 ... ff/IMG.jpg (http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i96/24175mypics2/Car%20stuff/IMG.jpg)
I managed 7 runs in the 12's & loads in the low 13's (plus a few where i missed gears or messed up, prob did 25 runs or more in the end
Some footage
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mBSacqhoP4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mBSacqhoP4)
I also have some in car but need to convert it to dvd, then put it on my comp & onto you tube
-
sounds like it, looks like mini didnt stand a chance
-
I watched you do a 13.01 and thought holy shit! but 12 sec! thats a fast car. Do you know what the fastest front drive time of the day was? i seen a turboed mini do 12.8
ps do you have an lsd or any gearbox mods?
-

Was the 13.1 on Sat @ the retro show, i pulled a 13.2 just after, then later tried my road tyres & killed 2nd gear :(
Not sure what the fastest on Sat was, on Fri when RTOC had the strip it was 11.2 @126 from Scoff in his 360bhp GTT (non GTT engine), then Stu Clark in his GTT with an 11.4, Stu's car is still on a GTT engne as well
No mods & no LSD
-
that is a fast 5

Had my new lightweight bonnet painted now (will get piccys tomorrow when i fit it) & also had an old badge lying around so had it painted as well.
What do you think, same colour or white writing, anyone do the writing different colours with photoshop or something so i can see what it looks like ??

Wheres the pic of your bonnet then??
R u still able to drop the honeing kit off?
-
Pick bonnet up tomorrow as i didn't have room in the work car... yes you can have the honer, i have it ready for you
-
Just read through all this looks very impressive hope to see it soon.
Keep up the good work might need to take you when i go to buy a 5 ;)

Piccies of the new lightweight bonnet now on the car.

-
What did you do with your other vented bonnet?
Sold it to a guy on RTOC for £80, he's just picked it up today.
-
gutted, i was just about to ask the same question :(
new bonnet and imperial badge look good man. the 'hidden' badge effect looks good i reckon.
-
yeah man i like the blue badge 2
i myt get the same done to mine
:)
i liked the old bonnet too.
-
Doesn't look to bad matey. Thought it would look really chavy but that cool louvere bonnet was bloody heavy no good for low pod times. Look forward to seeing it in the flesh.
-
That fits like a glove... some of these look well out... but that looks spot on! 8)
-
The bonnet on my new one is similar to your and I do love it lol.
However on my gti it was all about the fibreglass to save weight
-
what color is tht??
any code or reference for it??
d
-
ford imperial blue isn't it? like a focus rs
-
Yeah.
-
Very nice project indeed... :)
That looks excellent and you car is fast...
Have you ever considered to replace carb by injection kit? I am going to do during the next spring, at first I will run my R11 Turbo only with carb. I think that it is possible to achieve something like 250 bhp, pretty easily.
In our club in Finland is one GTT where is computer controlled injection etc... it is pretty fast :) ...
Do you any good place where are "cheap" forged pistons...I think that K-Tec racing is not best place to buy parts...IMO
-
See if you can find a wossner dealer in your country, or one that will post.... all forged pistons will be expensive....
-
See if you can find a wossner dealer in your country, or one that will post.... all forged pistons will be expensive....
Yup...thanks. I know that forged piston are expensive, but there are huge difference between both ends, so it is better to look a little bit around before buying.
I am also considering to replace crackshaft pretty soon... :D
-
Well most of the best parts are gone from her now & the rest is on ebay, shell will be going next weekend & that will be the end of a great car, it will live on but never be the same as when i built it.
I was sorely tempted by a standard Raider on ebay earlier
I think the wife would divorce me if i did though
-
theros try www.cgbmotorsport.net (http://www.cgbmotorsport.net)
bob sells wossner forged pistons now
-
Well thats it, she's all gone, went off on an A-frame ;last night, most of the other parts have sold & are awaiting post or pick up
I still think i'll have another, either a mint standard one or a really scabby stripped out drag car...
-
Did you shed a tear when it disappeared round the corner? I would have done. Nevermind mate at least now you got the choice to get what you want when u want it.
Edit :- If you have a car fund keep it hidden from the wife otherwise if she's anyhting like mine it will be raided for shite things like shoes
-
hahhaa i like tht last sentence ther.
wel jus to let u kno my girlfriend is exactly the same
cant see sense in buying new discs and pads but needs gucci shoes tht do fuk all
d
