I haven't used mine for a long time.

It's not so much a breather, more of a drain for the oil breather swirl pot thing.

As Ash says it's an oil return to sump from the oil sepetator pot above, as it would suggest the oil seperator pot would sepearator the vapout and return the oil to sump.  Alot of peeps would remove pipe and block at the back of the sump like I did.

pull off the breather pot with the car running, and stick your thumb over the pipe that comes up from the sump, wait about 30 secs. i bet the turbo starts smoking....

30 seconds sounds a little ambitous.

5 years and 40'000 or so miles later and mine still hasn't started smoking.  :?

If the turbo starts smoking from that, I'd be checking the rocker cover breather!
I've never felt any pressure come from the sump return, and seen loads of then plugged up.

with dodgey piston rings use it would be causing pressure through there and out the rocker cover breather as you would be pressuring the sump and pushing all the oil up and out what ever hols go out

to be fair, it was actually the liners. - i'd worn them into an hourglass shape through overrevving....
