Title: Coolant issue
Post by: Edwardo33 on 00:25, Tue 13 December 2011
Hi all, found the faulty hose on my 5, it runs from the bottom of the carb through a connector and to to the water pump. Does anyone know what hose this is?
Also, would the fact that this hose has perished be the cause of coolant not flowing proprely (overheating) any info would be helpful. Cheers

It's there to try and regulate the temperature at the base of the carb. Not really all that important so you could bypass it, you might struggle with lumpy running more so in the winter.

In what way is it perished? If it's leaking then not only do you lose coolant but you also get air in the coolant system.

I see! It has a hole in mate. Obviously its letting air in, but if Im putting coolant in try n find the hole in the hose, yet the coolant isnt flowing out, is this something to worry about? I cant work it out, there are no leaks so where is the coolant going?! Thanks for the advice Ash 8)

Have you bled the coolant system properly when it has lost its water?  If not this will cause the engine to overheat abit

No just need to bleed it mate, hold the header tank as high as can then undo the bleed nipples on the 2 water pipes so all the air gets pushed out and constant water stream comes out.

Try car after that and see how it goes

Bullseye, sorted mate, just need to replace the damaged hose now, comes from the back of the inlet manifold and connects to another hose and to the water pump. It looks heat shielded for some reason :-/

Thanks for your help matey youre a star!!
