Sorry I haven't commented in this thread yet. Seems like its going to a great car when its done. Good to see that you are making progress and getting rid of the rust. I'm looking forward to seeing it complete. Keep up the good work.  :D

It takes definitely a lot of time, but it's worth it. Haven't done much lately except to prime and paint some parts  :)

Now I need to try the bumper, hood and headlights before painting. I will also see how the Mocal oil cooler will fit, but what do you think is the best mounting solution?

If you're not planning on a FMIC, then behind the grill would be a good place to mount it. Just in front of the radiator. That's where I would've placed it if I wanted to keep the original appearance of the 5 :)

I can recomend the grill area for an intercooler fitment, I can even fit the  OE Grill in place, I had to move the rad in slightly further in with a top bracket but temps are still good I run the low temp bits to be on the safe side am considering a better fan aswell at present

You can see my bracket in this pic

thanks for the reply :) I want to keep it as original as possible. I wonder if I should mount the oil cooler on the front beam or if I should make a mount to raise it. Will it get enough cooling if I mount it direkte on the front? :)

hey mate, looking good mate getting rid of all the rust, have a look on my post,i have mounted my oil cooler on the front cross member with threaded rod,so it sits right in the opening for the front grill, you could also hang it from the bottom of the crossmember the same way,as long as its in a place to keep it cool  8)

It is open at the end. If some part of the carb fails internally then fuel might come out of there so it needs to be away from anywhere hot.

I have mine down by the gearbox.
