Pics of my 5 I made 7 years ago. LOADS NEW PICS ..
« on: 23:05, Mon 26 July 2010 »
Before and after pic at the bottom....

I bought my 5 when I was 18 for 50, it was a 1.2 event. It had electric windows, remote locking, luxury seats and other stuff I cant rember but was a "top" model that sat in a ladies driveway after she bought a new car. There was nothing wrong with it.

I mot'd it, lowered with gmax springs I got in a sale at halfords before i even bought the car for 25 and put on turbo wheels  which I got for 20 from the scrappies and took the back box off - cheap noise    Within a few days of the mot.

Then I fitted a 1.7 engine with a twin choke weber, was very quick 110bhp standard!

Then it got fox 15's, a flush tailgate and a bad boy bonnet, and I made a rear bumper up out of a orion rear spoiler mounted upside down on the base of the bumper and the bumper cut out into 3 sections and meshed ( it sounds terrible, but honestly was very smart) then an ax gt spoiler went on. I made a custom grill and fitted gtx sideskirts and fitted a front splitter which was part of a carlton bumper.

Bucket seats and harnesses went in and a mountney wheel.

Then on went 17's and it was lowered even more, I loved it, the wheels looked massive I couldent stop smiling that day!!

Then I got told about a 5 turbo for spares, so got the bodykit and all the running gear.

I smoothed the bumpers and filled the numberplate recess, I made a bonnet vent in a style I wanted to be totally unique rather than all the subaru ones etc of the time, so I cut out a RENAULT vent.

Then the big transformation tookplace in the next couple of weeks, I removed the plastic crap on the side of the car that went halfway up, ground the pins off and plug welded the holes. The gtx skirts came off and on went the GTT ones and arches and rear bumper.
And it was preped for spraying

The windows were tinted and the wheels resprayed in a slight clour changing hue.

The blue was the brand new fiesta colour that had just come out, but the car was sprayed with a mixture of bases colours, grey, jade green and a blue mix before the mica top coat was applied. It had amazing depth and gave great colour hue changes in the sun.
I fitted 205 gti front seats and retrimmed the rears with the same material and fitted rear headrests. The doors were fitted with custom builds to house 6X9's.

All the work was done by myself!

I never fitted the engine and running gear as I sold it a few months before my 20th to buy an mr2.
I owned a 5 turbo for a month or so when I was 20 that i did up to sell on, it had 210bhp.
I'm now 25 and have an escort cosworth I'm selling as I want a really nice 5, preferably tungsten, standard apart from lowerd with wheels and a powerfull engine, i got all the lairy body stuff out my system in my teens.

Anyway heres my car I miss so much, I thought she should been seen on forums for the first time years after it was done. I have other pics but they are on photos rather than these I luckily had on photobucket!
I will take photos of the photos!

Standard grill I would change to sometimes...

BEFORE AND AFTER FROM THE SAME SORT OF ANGLE......

Just need to sell the escort cosworth to get another

Thanks Grant  :D  :D  :D

Looks the nuts in the pics! 8)  Where is she at now? I bet you'd buy that car back if you could. There's no way I could sell anything I'd put so much work and money into.
I bought mine in 2000, finished all the mods in 2001 and now it's been off the road since 2002, hopefully bringing it back this year.
Anyway, you'll you be able to pick up a pretty decent 5 again from the sale of your cossie.

I actually really like it (not usually a fan of this kind of modification on the 5).

I think mainly because it looked a mission to pack those massive wheels in! Damn they look tight.

5 mission. I got offered a bmw 3 series coupe for it as a swap, so I got that and tidyed it up and sold that on for a good profit. The 5 went to dundee where it was unloved, one of my mates found it a couple of years later in a sorry state and bought it for about 60 i think    Then he left it sitting in a yard for a few months and it was nicked, we suspect it was weighed in for scrap by some tink :(  :(
Thats some amount of time you have had your car off the road, have you been doing a major restoration?

Its not so much my style now but it was standard parts improved rather that a lairy bodykit, I just went for a smooth look apart from the bonnet, still controversial but I'll stick with my "I wanted something different and unique"
The wheels pleased me so much, but yes they did require alot of work to go on

The picture from the rear of it partially strped when it was still white showed how low it was with the 17's.

I've only really been restoring it for about 2 years now which really is more than long enough to finish it but it's still really only half way there depending how you look at it. I keep saying if I had a bit of space to work on it in it wouldn't have taken anywhere near as long, but I don't so it's a matter of getting on it it.
I've been welding the chassis, all the jacking points and rear bumper mounts, below the a-pillars and small areas of the floor and boot. I've gotta finish putting thre engine back together, figure out if the gearbox is any good (selector went stiff ages ago) and do a whole heap of other little jobs including taking out the front screen and sorting the rust out behind it. Don't know how bad it is yet.
I'll update my own thread in this sometime.

good luck with finding a 5 in scotland - not an easy task! if you are lucky enough to see one for sale up here you need to be pretty quick! i was looking for one for about 6 months,  then one popped up on pistonheads (luckily it was a tungy 8) ), 9 hour round trip twice! first to check it out, then to pick it up :D
where abouts are you based?

Its mad how there is next to no gtt's up here, but when I think of the amount of salt on the roads from october till feb its not so surprising! Get youself onto rtoc and if your willing to travel im sure you will come across a nice example
