Cable fitted.
Dash packed in but working again now.
Horn has packed in.

Also after a decent bonnet.

Need to tidy up the rear arch as a brush handle fell on it when it was cold and fractured it. Some filler and rattle can for this I reckon.

Kills a little bit of me inside every time it breaks down however when I take it out to drive it makes it all worthwhile.

Got everything working on the car - then the lump failed  :(

Piston or piston ring has failed.

Getting a new block soon. I won't let this car beat me !

Its the 7 minutes of fun I get out of it while it works that keeps me going.

That , and that only.

I know exactly how you feel although I get more than 7mins of fun, I have been using my 5 daily for the last month.

Andy, if you need I have a spare OE piston on Rod with OE rings, have done about 500 miles then I decided to change engine, yours for postage cost if you need  :D

What are the car symptoms?? what makes you think piston or rings gone, is she breathing heavy??

Thanks for the offer James.

I have bitten the bullet and going for a new block. This one is cracked , and it had seen better days anyways.

Yeah - really breathing heavily. That really acrid oil burning stuff from all over. A nice thin film of oil everywhere and accompanied by the thrum of a mettalic clattering ..

I think its a poorly block. Ill strip it once I get the other block in and work out what went wrong.

Doesn't sound good you need to get some pics up when you finally strip it down but sounds good, as you say bottom end is prob scrap escpecially if mettalic clattering noise, if heavy breathing you would have pressurised the sump and oil would have just left the engine out the exhaust :(

Djinuk on RTOC is selling a stripped down bloke for 80.00 although he has said his liners are knackered on it.  I would suggest asking Markey mark or Mike aka Phase I 16v turbo if they have any complete running engine's about.

have started stripping down the five for the engine change.

Planning on leaving the box in situ and just swapping the block

Block

Box

A bit of oil sir with your block ?

Carb off for cleaning

Stripping ..

Turbot

I have take 29 pictures in total as I want to make sure I can plumb the car back together again. I have also made plans for deleting some extra pipes that arent needed. Should be a little tidier when I am done.

Evening All.

Long time no update

Since the last update I have :

Replace the engine
Replaced the turbo
Replaced all hoses
Got it through the MOT
Cried as the oil pressure sensor packed in.
Cried as I now have Ice Cream in the expansion tank

Cleaned out the ice cream , changed the rad and blocked the water feed pipe to the turbo.

I havent had the bottle to drive it anywhere yet.

Still - I wont let the bastard grind me down. If it doesnt kill me , it will bankrupt me.

Also got a new bonnet. Needs flatting and painting , but will do for now.

So in a nutshell , gone from this

To this

Finally
