My previous 5's and current one
« on: 19:00, Wed 07 October 2009 »
I've been into 5's for god knows how many years now and owned then since January 2002, i've had a few in the past which i've enjoyed and wish i never sold now. I've had 3 5 gt's on the road, an Extra van turbo which i converted myself and myself and Gttnutter built a Mini gt turbo.

My old blue 5 use to be my old drag car, had about 230bhp and done the quarter mile in 12.3@111mph. That was at 20psi but was using a VNT

I've got a few pics here of my old 5's and van too

Only ever drove Mini once and that was at Santa Pod, had problems with the rear wheels moving slightly as it was torque steering badly at higher speeds.

Sold it on before doing anymore work to it so never got to se how it really went.

How many grams did you have removed from the flywheel on your B18FT Mark? I wanna get mine lightened and balanced before I put my gearbox back on. Did you do it yourself? Don't know if you use centre lathes where you work or not
What sort of money would I be looking at :?:

I got someone else to do my flywheels mate as i don't a lathe to do it (not at work niether as i'm mechanical engineer) but he does remove a fair amount, the lightest flywheel i can get is around the 3.5kg once done.

That flywheel is 150 but do do cheaper versions, 80 and 120.

Seems pretty steep to just have a bit of metal machined off your flywheel! Would be better to buy the ready lightened & balanced one on ebay at the moment which was making 40 quid when I last looked. Looks the same as mine apart from a couple of extra holes on either face.

Just remembered, something that might interest you if you've not seen it before..

Thing is it's not just lightened like the k-tec ones, it has slots cut in it as well, I had a 9 slot one & it was alot lighter than the k-tec jobbies ;)
