GT Turbo gearbox
« on: 11:00, Mon 20 July 2009 »
Ive just bought a 1990 5 GT Turbo, but 3rd, 4th and 5th gears are crunchy and really hard to get into.  Ive been told that the grearbox's from pre-2001 Clios are exactly the same.  Is this true or is someone spouting bollocks?

Clio and 5 boxes will interchange no problems, the speedo will not work though unless you swap of the clocks to a mechnical cable rather than the electrical one which is in the 5 already.

I thought the 5's were a mechanical cable driven clocks?
Or am I thinking of something else!!
Which Clio gearbox's are the same raitio as the GT Turbo's??
And is a campus the same as the GT's ratio??

Hi mate you know what dont change the gear box as on my gt turbo the guy before me changed it to a four speed one as it was doing the nearly the same thing, just take out the origenal one and refurbesh it and thats the best idea as even ratio its different,as that gear box is desigened for 5 gt turbo :) you will lose power if you dont keep the origenal one believe me as i am loosing a lot of power and going to change it on mine gt turbo

The main difference between the clio and the 5 box is the final drive. Unsure on the campus but that is cable driven, its on the renault 5 gt turbo out of those boxes which are electrical
