250 bhp is not easy on a budget, nor is it very reliable for every day driving.
Basicaly you're looking at;
Full T25 turbo or T25/28 hybrid
decent intercooler/chargecooler
decent cam (285 prob)
uprated clutch (volvo jobby will prob be up to the job, just :wink: )
2 1/4 - 2 1/2 exhaust system,most say sidey is best.
bored out elbow or all in one elbow/down pipe
possibly headwork
Carb re-jetted & set up on a rr or with a wideband display on the road
standard pistons may last, then again they may not :lol:

Prob gonna need 25psi + boost as well

I have most of that & i am prob only running 190bhp @ 1.5 bar boost

GTTBoy, you are one of the few people that say the things as they are 8) . 200bhp on GTT engine is not easy reachable number. Some tuners claim that their GTT has 300bhp but only on predictions (now they are running about 25psi and have about 225bhp and if they raise boost over 32psi they will have around 300bhp) but never tested. 247bhp is highest number on RR that I saw.

Exactly,200bhp is more acheivable,still not easy/cheap though.
Like you say Jure people say
  'i've got 300bhp' with no real proof or with 30 psi + which is not even usable on the road.
There is a guy i know of with 247bhp& he managed an 11 sec quarter but i don't think the car is used daily. There is another guy that has run 11.4 sec quarter & keeps blowing gearboxes on the strip  :shock:

Realisticly you are looking at 170 bhp easily & safley :wink:

perhaps i might have to rethink on the power a bit then, roughly how quick would it be with say 160-180 bhp and what sort of things would have to be done to achive this

Well you will prob need;
uprated fuel pump
decent intercooler or at least strap the original
a turbo something like the K-tec 180 will get you to 160-180,or a full t25,it will be a bit more laggy but as you throw on the mods you won't have to change the turbo as its good for 200bhp + with other mods
CARB SET UP PROPERLY.... this is a must for anything over 1 bar boost
This with 16-18 psi boost should see around 170-180 on a good engine.
Clutch may hold up but if it goes just stick an uprated one in,the volvo one is good for around 200bhp.
If you ever take the engine out you may as well stick in a cam,not a must unless you want to rev it a bit higher to get the most out of a T25.

Carb deffo needs re jetting for over 1 bar boost, depends who does it really, you can fiddle with the jets yourself if you are pretty handy with a dremmel & small drill bits. You may get away with a 130/140 main jet & thats it,but you really need to have it checked with a wideband controller or at a rolling rd to make sure it makes the fuel all the way through.
My carb just had a 140 main in it & it fueled top end ok,was a bit rich other times though. You can play with other jets more if you have a wideband of your own like i am now  :wink:

Piper 285 cam or another 270 deg cam will do,but its a very fiddly job with the engine in the car.

Yes a newer ecu will work & if you can move it into the scuttle area so it's  well away from over the turbo  :wink:

Something like this
http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/products/db.php

If you are a member on RTOC they are doing a group buy for 157 delivered at the moment,i paid 225 for mine from somewhere else.
Not cheap but a must if you want to check the fueling & mod the car safely.
Alternatly you can go to a Rolling road & they will let you know + you get a nice printout of power/torque  :wink:

Cheers for the comment on my car  :wink:

Mine is fitted in the crossover pipe after the elbow,i have an all in one elbow/downpipe though.
I will update my specs with a picture over the next few days so you can see where i mean.
