White Gt Turbo Phase2 "back from the grave"
« on: 21:18, Thu 18 April 2013 »
Hello everyone...
My gt turbo is already finish...not totally, because there are always something to do/improve on Gtt..  :)

i made my presentation in 2009 (http://www.renault5gtturbo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=6859&hilit=tiago&sid=d32af0f623286dd4819af85e52d2177b), when i bought my dream car (r5 gtt)... Now i leave with you guys some pics of the restoration process and the final result.  I completed the restoration last summer.

during the restoration i found this jewell in my city, completely new, only for 42.

every pieces repainting.

New pistons and liners, new distribution, crank shaft from a gtr1.2 with low kilometers, ...

I put the car on this machine to see if the structure was right...

The best thing we did was open the gearbox, this had the carter broken and had suffered a warming.

I bought another JB3 to select the best parts, applied a repair kit box, bearings, etc..

and ...

we open the conduits following the original gasket. we left the exhaust conduits polished and the air/gas conduits scratched, to get a better combustion.

The measurement of the combustion chambers.

Painted with original color, white 348

Some more pictures of the finishes in the bottom of gtt ...

more pieces painted:

Now the assembly:

like a mirror :D

costs 2:

HOPE you like :)

Nice work! One question though, when you worked on the cylinder head, you left the intake channels polished but the exhasust channels scratched? I've been under the impression it should be the other way around. Leave the intake channels scratched to get the air spinning around the walls and so getting it to flow better. The exhaust channels should be polished to avoid carbon deposit.

R5_FIN, my mistake. I wrote it wrong.

we left the exhaust conduits polished and the air/gas conducts scratched, to get a better combustion.

Thanks for all answers.  :D

Your car looks amazing!! Did you get clips and stuff re-zinc coated or are they new? Was also wondering about opening the ports on the head for my rebuild, does it make a worthwhile difference and did you need a gas analyser or is it as simple as follow the gasket?

Clips, brackets and stuff was galvanized (re-zinc). At least in Portugal this process is very cheap, costs for me 2.

About the conduits of the head, i dont know if by opening it, will make diference... i never try in other way. But i think that its always better than standard state. We opening them folowing the original gasket and we didn't use any gas analysis system.  I can tell you my car is working fine. we do this process on the head and on manifold.
we left the exhaust conduits very polished and the ar/gas conduits scratched. But i know there are people  who not agree with this opinion, some leave all conduits polished.

In this process i was helped by a experienced friend, who has a very modified r5 gtt, and the car doesn't give him any problems at all. He used to drive his car on french circuits, he has the car set for this and not only.. :)

sorry for my english

Your English makes fine sense don't worry, better than my Portuguese for sure! Thanks for your reply, think I'll look to getting some head work and zinc plating done for mine now!
