My new (old) 5
« on: 00:02, Tue 17 April 2012 »
Just come back from ace cafe and i decided its time to start my thread.
Picked this car up a while ago but have had literally no time to work on it.
Any time i did have was overshadowed by weather issues.

Dirty bonnet!

Dirty wheels! (My mum says hello)

On the drive with a proper bonnet on

Ok, so i took bots off to see how much rust was left. As it turns out it was missold to me and it rotten as a carrot.

So im gonna learn to weld, and smother it all in underseal and paint.

Ive also decided on a colour and a direction i want to go with.
I wanted a matt green so ive gone for olive drab, as you can see its come out quite shiny. So ill wait and see about that. I also want it smooth, so the bumpers are being smoothed, door locks will be gone and indicator holes gone.

More pics tomorrow. Ive begun fibreglassing the bumpers. Someone decided to cut hole all in it.

Mark

sorry if you think i miss sold the car to you mate. ive not had it all in bits or on a ramp. when you came to view i did say i didnt know a lot about them also you came to view the car twice and were happy to take it away. im sure buy law it is the responsibility of the new buyer to check he is happy with the object he is buying. as i say ive never striped the car so dont feel i can be accused of selling you a bad car having said all the above and taking your comments on board i still think it was worth the money paid

I totally agree with you. It was still a fair price. I just didnt think there would be that much hidden rust. You dont have any parts left over at yours do you?

Filled the holes on the mounts and the hole cut for the interooler and the strip has been smoothed.
The intercooler hole needs another go as the fiberglass sagged through and still has a hole.
Waiting for a nice day again to get a coat of paint on

The wings have come out a bit dodge as i rushed prep. needed stripping back to bare metal really. Only got the first coat on and a bird has already shat n both sides.

That color is cool  8)  I can't wait to see it finished.

Wanna swap the TL grill for a campus one? ;)

Thought id finish these bits off today with a final coat. The rain thought otherwise.

On and off all day. So they look nice, but they are cratered, so a waste of a day really.

Painted one side of the bumper as i was sick of looking at filler. I fiberglassed the last bit and ill fill that soon then finish the bumper.

Got a set of nice clio wheels. Think they go well with the color scheme.
Although i could only get one on today as the wheels have locking wheel bolts and i dont have a key for them, but one wheel didnt have one (only 3 bolts)
Also got 1 lowering spring on. Not sure how low it was, but i like where it is now.

This is what the nuts look like.

Anyone know what they are?

These look similar, but not as sharp

If the weathers nice tomorrow, ill have to try and get the rest of the wheels on, and possibly look at the extent of the rust underneath

I've still got that wheel bolt sitting in the door card for you Mark! Kept forgetting to give you it.
Are you going to paint the bonnet?

The front wings on my current R5 just unbolted and came off easily.

I remember the front wings on my first R5 being held on with some kind of sealant along the top edge (visable when you open the bonnet) and it was a nightmare trying to remove it without bending it.
