*waves* noob droppin in
« on: 15:18, Tue 27 March 2012 »
allreet,
total noob to ren5`s, ive wanted one since 1995 but never ended up with one for some reason.
my other car is quiet well known in the ford scene from magazine covers etc and is a bit mad compared to my little ren5 (and cost me 40 times more too lol) but you know what?
it is just as much fun to drive,i absolutely love it,much to the horror of my girlfriend who "doesnt get" the "box on wheels".
its a white one (the only colour for me) on a G plate and mods include a side exit and some engine work and an adjustable boost control by BB performence tuning.
(even compared to my fiesta`s 300bhp it doesnt seem slow at all being so light).
you just do not see these on the road anymore,as a lot of lads have said in the petrol station etc.
anyway, having heard the horror stories that come with these cars i thought id better join a forum to help keep it on the road as ive just took my reliable runabout car (saxo vtr) off the road to save a bit of money. (1600 to insure the saxo,300 to insure the ren5 LOL).
how hot do these things run??? jesus lol.
only plans for it are
badboy bonnet (i know...a bit 90s but i like them) with a single sierra RS500 vent on the passenger side to try and help cooling, and 3 small rust spots to treat (petrol cap, next to bottom of drivers door, and under side rear window) but im just being fussy tbh.
ive had it a few weeks now and its not let me down once touch wood.
a few pics-

pic my missus did for fun lol

and my fiesta

the fiesta is going tho soon and is being replaced by a new project,an RS 200 kit car lol

firstly -  welcome to the forum

secondly - that fiesta looks amazing! 8)

third (and most importantly :D ) -  looks like you have found a nice tidy 5 to get stuck into!  5's generally do run a bit hot but as long as your cooling system is in good order there's nothing to worrry about.....

lastly - an RS 200???? are you shittin me?...such a rare sight.....  I love it

Hi and also welcome to the forum, I see youve picked the best colour  :D

Loving the fords. Got a few mates into them, one has two escort cossie's and a series one the other works at Goode's.

Regarding the temp, if you run a low stat and everything is good it shouldnt really go above the first quarter (mines sits on the line and go's over about 2mm when in traffic.) One thing you will probably get told to do is remove the antiperc fan and wiring as they can catch fire!!

hmm..mine runs at half way and then shoots right up to 3 quarters as soon as i either stop in traffic or even ordering kfc lol.
yeah heard about the perc fan fires but isnt the fan needed so it starts when warm??
i wonder if theres somthing wrong then if its running so hot..

That sounds about right.

The 3rd line is around 90c. For example my car will settle around the centre of the gauge on a drive, standing still it will touch the 3rd line and then the fan will cut in.

As long as it doesn't get higher then that line you should be fine, temperatures rise and fall quite quickly but the radiators are really quite small.

just noticed,it only has 3 marks not four (not counting the bottom one) haha so yes,its exactly like you say mate..which makes me feel alot better thank you lol.
still getting people on and off this site saying to cut the perc fan wires but im a bit worried about getting stuck somewhere if it doesnt start as ive took the saxo off the road now and the fiesta/rs both are off the road so its my daily now :-/

re:PF mag.. i wouldnt use that mag if i ran out of toilet roll mate, ive not been in there and wouldnt do either with any of my cars.long story short(i bet this ends up long),after i ripped my guts out to build that fiesta they ran a story and put some lad on the cover with "the first ever fiesta ST turbo" knowing full well mine was a year before it as they was told by myself and other magazines when the lad was talking about it online etc..but my bodywork wasnt ready so they took advantage.
the mags ive been in a few times are fast ford, fast car, performance vw (i know wtf lol) and then posters and programmes for ford fair/trax/advertisements but defiantly not PF!

Woops, my bad    It's the Fast Ford one, same as your picture above. It was late when I came on here last night
I always preferred the Ford mags for the tech write ups. Now I'm into PVW for the stupid things that shouldn't fit but look amazing
